Footman James Insurance

Hi All,

Just got in from work to find a letter from Footman James telling me that they 'do not currently have an insurer to cater for your insurance requirements. Due to a change in underwriting terms we are unable to offer any terms for the forthcoming year'. My insurance is due at the end of the month.

I have been a loyal customer for many years and I have not caused any problems for them, no claims etc. I only drive about 2-3000 miles per annum and the car is garaged in Fort Knox!!!

Anyone had this happen to them? Anyone recommend a good broker or sensible Ins co.

Hi Nick
Give us some details of car, location , value etc then we may be able to be of help

Have fun

Hi Paul,

South East London

Value approx 27K. Thanks for your help.

Nick,

There's loads of stuff on the forum about motor insurance, the problem being a lead seeming tremendous one year can turn out to be a complete waste of time the next - as you're finding out.

The general consensus seems to be to shop around every year, so you'll probably need to devote a morning on the phone. Have a look in Porsche Post for all the most likely prospects, including the Club's latest sponsors.

You could also try Marsh, Aeon and Keith Michaels (google them).

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Clive.

The supposed 'Club Friendly' insurance companies failed to do anything for me earlier this year - huge quotes and a very patronising attitude IMHO.

Ended up using 'Comparethemarket' and got a great deal which saved £1300 off the aforementioned insurers.

Hi All. Thanks for advice so far.

I called Footman James this morning. I was informed by the company that as I did not have a classic car insurance policy with them, due to underwriting changes, they were unable to insure my everyday car ie. my Carrera.

So this may be an issue for all of you that insure only a modern Porsche with Footman James!!!

I will let you know how I get on with my search fro new insurance!!

In support for Footman James, I have had Classic car insurance with them for over 15 years and two years ago just before my renewal date they sent me my reminder and advised thay they had another insurer which I might like to look at. I did and changed the insurer to FJ's reccomended policy and have reduced the cost by about 40% for the same cover including UK and Continental breakdown cover. I will be interested to see what they do when my renewal notice arrives in September.

Hi All,

After taking the collective's advice I did go to 'comparethemarket' and have just paid about 50% of the asked for premium from another club magazine advertiser.

HAPPY DAY'S

To Robin--please dont think that I was trying to put down Footman James. I have been factual in my comments and no more. They have been OK to deal with but as I first stated, apart from paying my premiums each year, I have had no other dealings with them. I'm sure that you will get the very best service from them as you obviously have classic Porsche's--its just us modern porsche owners that might have a problem.

Have used A Plan at Newbury for last 5 years. Always very competitive, recently reinsured 2002 Carrera 4S for under £400.00 based on 6000 per year and £700.00 excess. Based in Scotland and car garaged. Might be worth a try.

HI Nick, yes my insurance is for Classic Porsche cars. I was not aware that FJ covered moderns as they are now part of the AON group so would probably direct you in their direction. On the brighter side I am pleased you have found someone who is better and saves you money thats always good.

Speaking insurance, have my cars on an Aviva "multi-vehicle" policy, one that's based on "loyalty" - you can see where I'm going with this I expect [:)]

1st year renewal was fairly good (no real change at all), no claims etc. However, a rise of £236 for this year's has just been proposed. Obviously not happy and decided to just remind them of the "loyalty" part in a pleasant but firm manner of course....

Anyway, after it was agreed that I don't intend on making any changes and that I don't intend on paying the extra, they came back pretty quickly to confirm it would be £31 more expensive. I've decided that's my positive moment of the day so far [:)]

I've been generally impressed with the policy and the call centre on the occasions I've used them so pleased I don't need to now be spending hours on the phone/comparison sites all day!

I feel better for sharing, thanks for listening[:)]
