Footwell blowers

Hello, unless I'm going mad I have some strange behaviour of the foot well blowers. With the ignition off and key removed the blowers were running at slow speed continuously, I had to remove the local 10a fuse for each blower to stop them. Then today I inserted the fuse on the drivers side and the fan didn't run until the ignition was switched on - sorted I thought but when the ignition was switched off the fan continued running. Any ideas gratefully received, thank you. Tim. PS anyone know what the foot well blower series resistor does?

Hi Tim

Could be the first relay in the fuse board remove and see what happens swap with the horn relay to test.
The resistor gives the two speeds to the foot well blowers. Report back.

Charles, I thought you had 'retired'!. I have replaced relay no. 1 with a spare. It seemingly has made no difference in that the blower continues at slow speed with ignition off. I have been trying to make sense of the wiring diagram on page 970-52 of Bentley but my auto-electric knowledge is somewhat limited. The blowers will switch to high speed with the controller between the seats with the ignition on and off but the servo operating the heater flap valves only operates with ignition on? I recently installed extra relays for the headlights but i cannot see how that would have caused this issue?Any more thoughts gratefully received. Thanks Tim

Ok we need to swap the heater relay in the engine bay n/s behind the plastic cover.

Charles, thanks for your reply. Are the relays to which you refer readily available? My local independent Porsche shop does not seem to list them on-line? I assume they are quite expensive items if I can source one? Thanks Tim

Charles, do you know if the heater blower relays are repairable? Just disturbing the relay without actually removing it has temporarily solved the problem but there is obviously something sticky inside and it also makes a horrible noise! That said it is date stamped 1988 so it is probably due for replacement. But thought it was worth asking the question before buying a new one. Thanks Tim

Hi Tim. The relay part number is 911-618-153-00. £ 273. I was hopeing I had a test one you could try sorry no. Can anyone HELP.
Charles . p/s. not retired yet still repairing PORSCHES from home.

Charles, thanks for your help. I will try repairing it else put my hand in my pocket! Have you ever thought of writing a book on diagnosing problems on these cars? I would buy one.
