For more speed add lightness

I will be the first to admit that we Porschephiles do get carried away with lightening our cars to improve performance, but Porsche started it so it can't be wrong. I am considering removing the rear seats, trim, shelf from my '79 sc and would be grateful to hear from anyone that has done the same. The only downside appears to be the loss of (marginal) seats and a good luggage platform. I am surprised that no-one has manufactured an aluminium replacement, just to flatten out that area. Also if you have done this where did you get carpet from and if it's not too rude to ask, how much was it?
Thanks
Ian

Ian couldn't agree more with that old adage, removing the parcel shelf is one of the last lightening mods I haven't done on my SC. I was just about to start the process but only to remove 10Kg of sound deadening and not the seasts as I need them. My car is already loud inside and apparently if you remove the stuff behind the seasts things get too noisy. The carpets you need are part of the earlier 'seat deleted' RS carpet set. Ring Dave Nunn at Southbound and tell him what you want.

Thanks Bones, I had thought that Southbound might be the place to go but you never know. Although you have said that you need to retain the seats have you heard of anything that replaces them to give a flat platform without all that weight? If not I might try to fabricate one from aluminium and carpet it. Let me know please. One final thing, there are metal loops screwed to the bulkhead which I assume are for luggage straps, do you know where you can get these from?
Thanks again
Ian

I've toyed with the idea of fabricating a replacement for the seats which too I think it would be staright forward but I'm leaving that area alone for now. The fittings you require can be had from Porsche or Southbound for less money I would think.
