Text from rear of book,

A fresh and unusual account of the Monte Carlo Rally. It tells the fascinating story of the Monte's connection to Scotland from its beginnings in the pre-war period to its recent return to Scotland in 2011.

Since its inception, the traditional Monte format has changed little. Crews set off from iconic Scottish venues in the middle of winter to drive almost non-stop to the tiny Principality of Monaco. After driving the length of the UK, they continued across France, over the snow and ice-bound roads of the Alps then down into the warmth and sunshine of Monte Carlo. As if this test was not enough, it was against the clock.

Départ d'Ecosse captures in words and images the excitement, drama and colour of this world famous event with its mix of glamour and adventure. The Foreword of the book is by the world famous rally driver, Paddy Hopkirk and the story is narrated by Douglas Anderson who successfully brought the Monte back to Scotland in 2011. It is complemented by stories and tales from the organisers, competitors and spectators who came in their droves to see the rally cars and to give the crews a rousing Scottish send-off, as the cars made their way through the crowds and disappeared into the night.

Départ d'Ecosse is a visual treat with an engaging text. It is a book you will go back to again and again to savour the magic that is the Monte Carlo Rally.
