Hi Guys,
You all probably know this but for those of you like me who did not you will find this interesting.
Below I have copied the introduction to the 911SC book by Adrian Streather.
"The 911SC was actually meant to be the last 911 series. Porsche AG management had decided that the 911 was to be replaced by front engine V8 powered 928. There were two reasons for this.
1 Internal management rivalries.
2 Some Porsche senior management believed that the 911 engine could no longer be modified to comply with new emissions regulations being introduced.
So what happened? Once the decision to eliminate the 911 became public knowledge, 911 owners worldwide screamed foul play. However a significant event took place. A new chief executive was appointed. Herr Peter Schutz is an American of German decent and he was determined not to let the 911 die. In a board meeting he stood up and with a marker pen extended the line on the production chart from it's end in 1981 to the far edge of the chart. The 911 was saved.
It is possible that the name Super Carrera was selected for this series of 911 so it would always be remembered."
