Following the rather surreal experience that was last night's club meeting, I needed to get my head around what all the fuss was about so I wrote down my thinking. I thought others might find it useful, so in the absence of any other email lists I'm putting it up on the Forum. If I've got completely the wrong end of the stick please just tell me to get back in my box :p

So, basically, the region has a healthy membership with event attendance on a sliding scale from not attending anything to those who seem to be at everything that's going on. People have busy lives with work/school/family commitments, other interests, sports, hobbies, holidays, etc. so, especially during the Summer months, it can be difficult to attend everything.

The events available can be categorised as follows:
1. Club nights
2. R18-arranged events (e.g. Myerscough visit, invites from PC Bolton)
3. Larger events that R18 are invited to (e.g. Heaves, Jasmine)
4. Joint events with other regions (e.g. Avro visit)
5. Other regions' events (e.g. R7 Sunday Service, R3 Witton castle)
6. Non-PCGB events where we have a presence (e.g. Grasmere)
7. Other non-PCGB events where we just turn up (e.g. Mitton Hall, Phantom Winger)

Out of all of those events, the only ones we really have any say at all in the timing of are those in 1., 2. and sometimes 4. The rest are kindly run by other organisations and the dates are set regardless of whether or not we have a club night.

So I might be being a bit simplistic here, but surely the only thing up for discussion, and the only thing we can have a survey about is:
(a) for those events under our control, should they take up one of the club night slots or be arranged at other times and
(b) if they (or any of the other events that we are invited to) are taking place on a club night, should there still be a club night (or some smaller informal gathering) held as well, for those who don't want to go to the arranged event?

Doesn't seem particularly complicated and certainly didn't warrant last night's "excitement", although as I said, I could be missing something here...

There still seems to be a decent amount of activity before things quieten down for the winter and lots of interesting ideas for next year - it's a shame we didn't get to talk about them.

Oh and last but not least, best wishes to Albert and Rob - I hope you are both feeling better soon!

Gareth

I think thats a good summary Gareth. Clearly everyone will have the opportunity to put their points across when the questionairre is sent out.

This directorship malarkey is clearly dangerous and I also wish Rob & Albert a speedy recovery.

Gareth's summary is spot on.

Albert is not answering his 'phone or emails on Doctors' orders but he is at home on complete rest.

Let's hope he (and Rob) get well soon.

I also wish Rob & Albert speedy recoveries from what it is impossible to link to PCGB Directorships without close analysis.

I think the "excitement " last night arose around what I thought to be slightly vested interests being raised without most attendees having any inkling of what it was all about-not helped by a slightly confusing delivery from he with the notepad.
Gareth's 2nd paragraph makes a good embracing comment & R18 has always been good at embracing change .
Hopefully the survey completed intelligently by all & cleverly interpreted on it's completion will show us the way forward.

Long live Lord Kellock & Artful Albert!:ROFLMAO:

Looks like us North R18 members have missed a week of excitement and confusion :ROFLMAO:

I look forward to the questionairre when it arrives and will fill it out diligently with help from anyone more knowledgeable than me (so that's most of the people I know) [8|]

Sorry to hear that you have been taken ill Albert and Michelle and I are wishing you a speedy recovery

I feel like a misquoted Mark Twain... it's Albert that's poorly, I'm ok now and thanks to the well wishers.

Have to say that R18's meeting last night sounded like a fantastic way of welcoming 6 new members to the Club...

If anybody else would like to contact me about this, please do not hesitate to do so through the usual channels.
