New member
Hi just recently joined after buying an 89 S2, Loving the car so far also made a few upgrades as below

Fully adjustable coil over suspension
9 Products short shift
New front brakes/pads
Repaired digital clock
Repaired glove box lid brackets and centre storage lids cover
Upgraded stereo with Pioneer head unit and Alpine 6 x 4" speakers
I believe the wheels are from a turbo S - or Silver Rose.
The car is in excellent condition due to recent re-spray and re-built top end.
cheers

Lovely. Forged club sport (CS) wheels. Standard on turbo s and 89MY turbo and a (very) rare option on 90MY turbo's. :)

Very nice..
What suspension?

Cheers for the warm welcome, I went for Spax PSX 118 coilovers, they seem to give comfortable ride the car was too soft and boaty with the standard set up, I’m happy with the front height now but would like a little lower at the rear maybe 20-25mm, I‘ve done the eccentric bolt adjustment but I think I will have to re-index the torsion bar. Also I’ve noticed a slight knock while driving over bumps I have heard the NS strut touches the body and some folk have had to add a small spacer to get round this issue? the Initial plan was to keep it looking factory but I have bought a set compomotive MO6 18” wheels to try not to everyone’s taste but I think it will look good. Also I have ordered 968 caster blocks. Also fitted a Promax chip and K&N panel filter.

Nice looking car, yes forged wheels, keep hold of them and DO NOT get them skimmed as you will weaken them and render them useless.

18" wheels look good but the car will not feel as nimble, castor blocks are a good shout, keep plenty of protective wax on guards red as it does fade with UV and cannot be brought back permanently.
Check that the secondary cam drive chain under the cam cover has had a new slipper pad fitted at some time worth doing as they wear and can wear the cam drive teeth or jump = not good.
Kit available for around £100.

Looks nice - the crests on the wheels should point to the valves though ;)

Originality is key you know [:D]

I've not heard of a suspension knock issue with Spax? Are there any witness marks? Where would the spacer go?
Compomotive MO's are used on the 924 race cars i think? 18's might look a bit over sized, but it's a matter of taste. I bet it drives better on the 16's though..

Not sure about 18's - the first 968 cab I viewed and test drive was on 18's, 225 front 245 rear, steering was very heavy, car tramlined like crazy and ride was very hard, not pleasant compared to my 968 coupe on 16's. Also I suspect the max rim size offered as standard would be 17" (it was on the 968, and they are rather similar to the S2). The caster blocks is a good move.

Porsche 968 official option 18" wheels 964 210 808 49
964 210 958 47

Not according to the Porsche 1993 brochure I have for the 968.
Standard front 7Jx16 205/55ZR16
Standard rear 8Jx16 225/50ZR16
Optional front 7.5Jx17 225/45ZR17
Optional rear 9Jx17 255/40ZR17

The list of optional extras has no mention of 18's, only 17's (which were standard on the Sport and CS models, 16's were standard on the coupe and cabriolet.

See also the official parts catalog E_968_KATALOG.pdf page 601-00 (download from Porsche website if you don't have it), only 16" and 17" rims shown.

I don't know where I got my "no 18's" info from, but I have known for years that Porsche specifically recommended against fitting 18's to a 968 - and that the uprated caster blocks were a requirement for fitting 17's.

The 'Performance Design' 18" wheels with the part numbers I listed were an official Porsche accessory for road use on the 968. Do you think I'm making that up? Quite separate from this is the well established fact that Porsche fitted 18" wheels to the 968 S and RS.

Yes 18's are not nice for road use, for track possibly, but none of these transaxles and all car's in general perform well on public roads with HUGE wheels 4" bigger,
you'll always find that those that do like them are after the touring car "look" and not the best handling etc...

The 968 limited edition models (Turbo) are very rare and as you say none of the mass produced car's came with 18's. Even the 968 replacement (Boxster) started with 16"

Andy Watson had an issue with the rearsa knocking. I have that very set in a box alongside my desk here (unfitted amusingly, for those who know me).

With regards to the wheels: Id check the build to see whether it had M030.

Can someone please help..........................are the offsets for standard 16" Design 90 wheels on my '92 S2, 52 front and 55 rear or the other way round.
Many thanks.

PET says:

964 362 114 01 alloy wheel
7 J X 16
ET 55
silver
/V 2 944S2

964 362 116 01 alloy wheel
8 J X 16
ET 52,3
silver
/H 2 944S2

So 55 front, 52.3 rear.

Just wondering if anyone has fitted an after market steering wheel? I have just fitted a black Mono prototipo however I am having trouble getting the horn to work? I have followed the instructions fitting the spade connector and made sure the sliding spring ground is contacting the boss adaptor but still can’t get it working any ideas on a fix would be much appreciated ??

What sort of boss have you used with that new wheel? Getting a good connection on the ring on some of the cheaper bosses can be a pain.

Hi Lewis,

when i I changed out my steering wheel for a momo type, I installed a removable unit with spe momo boss in order to achieve it. With the horn that came with the steering wheel I remember I was having same issue as u but I bought a new horn with the Porsche crest on and remember having to redo the wires in order for it to work.

im sorry I can’t be more spercific as it was maybe 3 years ago now. It’s worth working your way don from the boss and just touching the wires on the horn withought the steering wheel on to make sure you have a working circuit, as I remember the wires didn’t have a lot of room once the horn insert was fitted and it used to make intermittent contact becuase of the lack of space of the wires crammed in the horn recess.

also Make sure the contacts on the horn and hub and original contacts are clean and have no grease or corroded surface may need a little sandpaper to clean area contact up if you know what I mean.
