Hi Guys
I have recently bought my 2007 (56) C2S and I love it
Obviously I have been looking round at others still on the market as I like to do that when I should be working and I've came across this text in an advert for a similar 2007 (56) C2S like mine....
I just wondered what you guys thought of what the guy is saying in your experiences and if it is as common as he makes out...some of you probably know Portiacraft...I don't, but found what they wrote very interesting and frightening at the same time...as my car is a 56 according to them I may be OK but can what he is saying be true? Is there a difference between the 05/55/06 cars from the 56?? I'd have thought there maybe between Gen 1 and Gen 11 but I think I am right in thinking 56 is too early for Gen11....anyway thoughts please ladies and gentleman...

this is the text I have lifted...

THIS IS EXCEPTIONAL VALUE FOR AN 07 MODEL CAR A LOT OF DEALERS ARE ASKING THIS FOR 05 CARS AND BEING THE 07 MODEL IT DOES NOT HAVE THE INHERENT ENGINE PROBLEM THAT THE EARLY CARS SUFFER FROM.
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE SEEING A LOT OF 05/06 3.8 ENGINES LATELY WITH THE DEATH TICK AS WE CALL IT AND ONCE WE PLUG OUR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE IN AND CHECK THE BORES WE CAN CONFIRM THE ENGINE HAS NOT GOT LONG TO GO. SHAME REALLY THAT PORSCHE WILL NOT JUST ADMIT THAT THESE ENGINES HAVE AN INHERENT PROBLEM. STRANGELY WE ARE NOT SEEING IT ON THE 3.6 AND FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE BUYING THESE IN AT THE MOMENT AND TEND TO ONLY BUY THE 3.8 IF IT PASSES ALL THE TESTS WE LIKE TO CARRY OUT OR IT HAS EITHER A NEW ENGINE BY PORSCHE OR SOMEONE LIKE HARTECH OR TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY FROM PORSCHE.
THIS MEANS WE ARE FINDING IT VERY HARD TO SOURCE CARS WE ARE HAPPY SELLING AS WE OFFER A GOOD WARRANTY ON OUR CARS AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A FEW ENGINES UNDER OUR WARRANTY.

Thoughts please
Cheers
Rich

I saw an article recently were the view expressed was this would effect elss than 5% of the 04/05 early 06 cars in the first 100,000 miles.

seems a lot but views expressed by the guys (an article in 911& Porsche world If iI remember correctly) the view was the same , Porsche constantly improve models through their lifespan, so the newer the Gen 1 the lower the problem.

then thoughts expressed can be summarised below

  • Most occur in the first 20k miles
  • More often than not the cars are garage queeens (hardly used) and /or
  • Have extensive low rev stop start town driving
  • Did not change oil regulalry (ie 20k service schedule on a low mileage car, so they would be years old by service mileage)

Th advice given suggets the following
  • Oil change every year,
  • Drive the thing, propoerly - let the oil warm up then cane it
  • Use the car regularly

Make of that what you will but it was quite a repsectable garage, who do rebuilds, giving its view

I've seen a seperate article sugggesting the powerkit cars are much less likley to suffer this due to some of the component changes.

There is no doubt that this happens but so far I thnk not to too many people on the forum. I am sure I'll be corrected if I got that bit wrong.

Hi

A new member signing in. I live in Singapore part of the year but have a home near York

I have just bought a 2004 (November) C2S with 54,000 on the clock.
I got Peter Morgan Consulting to do a pre purchase check and they recommended a bore score analysis

Thery said 'With a known weakness for bore-scoring on these models the low oil/water readings are a slight cause for concern and a full boroscope of the engine by an OPC is recommended'

I had this done by Porsche Chester and the results showed no problems in this area.

I suppose the learning point is get the bore score done if you have any concerns- especially if low oil/water when there should not be.

Hope this helps
