Dekker

New member
The Club has been informed that of the sad news of the passing of one of founding members of the club, Ron Smith, on Friday 8th August, the day before his 84th Birthday.

I met Ron on several occasions and I found him to be a very quiet unassuming gentleman who was full of interesting Porsche stories and extremely knowledgeable.

His son Adam has asked us to pass the following details to all members:

He was Very Proud to be the a Founding Father and Honorary Member of PCGB, and was the last remaining Founding Father.

As discussed please circulate the news and details of his Funeral on the Club Forum etc to let as many of his friends know as possible.

The Funeral will take place on Wednesday 3rd September at 2pm at-

Aldridge Parish Church,
The Green,
Aldridge,
West Midlands,
WS9 8NH

Followed by a short service at Streetly Crematorium for Family.

Followed by a Wake at-

Calderfields Golf Club,
Aldridge Road,
Walsall,
West Midlands
WS4 2JS

As discussed, it is the Familyâ?Ts wish if at all possible to have the Clubs 356 attend on the day and preferably lead the Funeral procession from the Church to the Crematorium then on to the Wake.

Also any club Members attending, we would really like to get their Porsches along and park along the road in front of the Church, he Loved Porsches of All Ages, shapes and Sizes (But no 4x4â?Ts!!)

If any interest is shown Please let me know and I will look to Reserve parking.

We are arraigning a Cake to be made of the PCGB Badge from his Grandchildren, in the Old Style that I understand my father had a hand in designing, hopefully this is not a problem to the Club?

I feel sure that there will be many members who would like to pay their respects at Ron's funeral. Would members who would like to attend please contact Club office either my telephone or email so that we can co-ordinate numbers for parking and the wake as Adam has requested.

Hi All,

I will check this Forum regularly.

Adam

Adam, thanks for the post and I am sorry for your loss of a wonderful man and importantly Father.

I hope club members support you on the day with their cars- I sadly cannot as I have now sold my Porsche, but I will think of you and the family at ths time.
I would be lovely to see the 356 at the head of the procession.

Thanks Gary,

777 FON, a 356 owned by my Father in the 60's Arrived back on these Shores just last week and will be brought along as a Static display by its new owner John Arnold who's Uncle Arthur Sheffield was the original Owner!!

Kind regards
Adam

Hi R9 et al.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Ron for several years and he has come to many of our Curborough meetings.
Once on his Birthday, when we gave him a Card with everybody present, signing it.

My sympathies to his family and friends. We shall all miss an 'Old Timer', like him, They are getting fewer.

Nevertheless, PCGB must carry on. Perhaps they could arrange a Curborough Memorial Trophy in his name in respect for all he has done in the past.

"They shall not be forgotten" !

John Lord

Joan and I will be there on the 3rd, with the 924.
