France - Part 2 !

Well I had always wanted a Porsche and that was realised about 9 months ago and I had always wanted to tour the open French Roads in something with a bit of Power and Prestige and 1996 miles later and 9 days I have arrived back in Cloudy Lancashire.

The old girl never missed a beat and averaged an impressive 38mpg over the full duration which I was well chuffed with, the car fully laden in the boot and the backseats just eat the French Roads and the look on the face on the Frenchman with his new Megane 2.0 ( bit of friendly jostling for about 20kms ) when on a Hill at about 110mph when he was maxed out the S2 just cruised past with what seemed like ease said it all.

In one single journey managed about 498 miles ( 9 hrs solid with a 30 min break ) got out of the car and it felt like Id been sat in an armchair all day - without doubt the most comfortable car I have ever owned.

Was also really chuffed with how much interest the car got in France - in Quimper somebody left a note in French roughly translated telling me ' you have a beautiful car do you have a beautiful woman [:D] ) and various other looks and comments made years of owning Nissan's worth it all the more.

Only saw 3 Porsches in France ( 1 Boxster , 1 Cayenne and a new 911 Turbo ) and made the other half record all the Porsche's passed in the 2000 miles [:D] so 8 Boxsters ( 1 acknowledged ) 7 Cayenne's ( none acknowledged ) 5 996's ( 0 acknowledged but gave that look of PMP syndrome ) 6 other various 911's ( all acknowledged ) 1 928 S and 0 944's

With relation to 2 of those drivers - the Black Cayenne S on the M1 Jct 15 at about 2 ish today who undertook at well over 100 mph and very very nearly caused 2 accidents - Im no saint but when you nearly cause me to have an accident in my Pride and Joy then I pray you where just having an off day and the guy in the 928 S , A Regd, Guards Red, Beautiful Condition , I really hope that when you passed me on the M6 Toll Rd and I was in excess of 135 mph that one there are no camera's on that 5 ish mile stretch and that the judge will accept ' that 2 old Porsche's at speed is a work of art your honour [;)]

Lastly the only thing that has failed are my indicators at Dover - light on dash flashes once goes out and the exterior indicator just remains on - not fuse - relay anybody ? or battery problems ? everything else worked like a dream.

Sorry to go on but have waited a long time for a journey like that and it exceeded everything I thought the car was capable of ( also just passed 130,000 miles ) what a truly great car.

Good to see that you enjoyed yourself.

Bad that you complain about the Cayenne S at 100 mph, whilst you boast about the 135 mph yourself.
I'm no saint myself when it comes to the odd bit of speed, but methinks 135 on public roads is not something to be proud of.
Gives the rest of a name for being speed merchants.

Wow - sounds a nice trip Chris. Shame you saw no 944 [:(] We spent a week touring round a few years ago and one of the hotels we stayed in had a 944 in the car park. It turned out to be the owners and the next day his mate popped round also with a 944. They were the only two I saw all week [:D]

My indicators failed in the same way once and it was the relay (blinkentrochter if I remember correctly) it just switched on the light and stayed that way. Was around £20 from the OPC

Yeah its a fair point John - certainly wont be doing that kind of speed again on a public road but the Cayenne Driver was undercutting , using no indicators , once used the hard shoulder to overtake in very heavy traffic and nearly caused 2 accidents , I accept my driving was reckless because of the speed but he was simply a lunatic.

Glad you took my comments in the way that they were intended - I did wonder if they sounded 'too' harsh. Although, I still stand by the content.

And, like you, I find undertaking/hard shoulder useage bad/dangerous.

Thanks Paul - yep new relay needed will give OPC a bell Monday and cheers John - fair comments like yours will not offend only make me realise something us youngsters [:D] should already been aware of.

Rang OPC in Kendal, relay in stock but the guy said its a VW part which was handy as Kendal is 90 miles away and VW had the part in stock £12.30 inc Vat about 2 miles away. So thumbs up to the OPC in Kendal.
