Free Thorough Health Check at OPC

Having told me that business was slow at my local OPC, they stated that they would do a 'Free Health Check'. The car was in to have the Switchable Sports Exhaust fixed for the fourth time since fitting and a new water pump.

Last time they did this (free health check) - at scheduled service time - they told me that my rear brake discs and pads were dangerousley low and needed changing. Cost c.£550. I asked why the warning light hadn't come on and that IMO they weren't that bad...they tutted and said you'll be back to get them done soon. 7 months later - present day - and during the Free Thorough health Check....they didn't even mention the discs and pads despite the fatc I haven't changed them....was they just trying to drum up or imagine some work for themselves?

They found the high horn not working, ignition coils worn and suspension arm bushes all splitting.......another case or trying to drum up business whilst times are quiet?

Took car along to an independant local Porsche specialist who took a look and said work not needed....apart from the horn which was knackered.

thought I'd share that wih you.

Shame as I take my 8 year old car to the OPC as I trust them not to pull the wool.....

how can they tell you an ignition coil is worn , do they check the internals of them, every porsche owner knows they corrode and crack and most people choose to to wait till they actually faulter..

regards the lower arm bushes splitting, what tends to happen on all these coffin type arms is the bush ends tend to come adrift of the arms but can go nowhere and cause no problems in general apart from later on in life they start to creak...
