Front and rear bonnet struts

So, can someone tell me the best method to replace the front and rear gas struts?
Looking at the front struts, its appears simple enough removing the top, but the bottom has a clip holding it in place. Are there some tips please?

They are "push clip" on, there's no actual clip to remove it's all in the strut head.

So a sharp tap as low as you can (I used a large flat screwdriver held so that it bears on the strut really low down) then tap the screwdriver whilst holding the top firmly.

They "snap" off , reverse procedure when putting new ones on.

Place in position over the round fixing and tap.

BTW its probably easier to remove the bottom first, the top then hold the strut parallel so it comes off straight.

That's correct for the front struts but the engine lid struts have clips at both ends and the inner ones are very awkward to get off and put back on. A while back someone suggested tying a bit of thread to the clip to stop it getting lost in the midst of the engine when it inevitably pings off. I managed without doing that but it seems a sensible precaution.

Put a rag in the space below where your working, if you drop a clip which you will have a good chance of doing, it lands on the rag and dosent dissapear into the beyond!!

Removing the air filter cover and filter makes the right hand one easier but it's so much hassle to remove the air duct etc that I worked around it on the left side. Awkward but not impossible.
