Front anti-roll bar refitting problem - please help

Hi,

I decided to change my anti roll bar bushes on my 1980 911SC Targa after it failed its MOT because of them - the Haynes manual made it sound easy!

Anyway taking everything apart and putting in some SuperPro polyurethene bushes wasn't a problem but I'm now having trouble getting the anti-roll bar back in as it seems to be too long to fit into the brackets. Does anybody know if there is a simple solution to this or if I have missed a trick?

The solution is 'simple' in that, if the A-arms are on the car, you will need plenty of brute force to persuade the bar back in.

Much easier with to put the ends of the bar into the a-arms whilst off the car and fit as an assembly.

I managed to persuade my bar back in with a lot of swearing and brute force with a length of 2x2 timber. I also found a zip tie around the bush to stop it pinging out at the last moment was essential.

You might also succeed with a length of strap and a ratcheting link that can be used to apply tension across the bar and effectively 'pull' the ends in.

It's not a great job I'm afraid.
