Front (badge) panel

TK2015

New member
I would like to try to replace the front (badge) panel on my '89 944 with the one from a 924 Turbo (with the vent slots) to help cooling and get fresh air to a cone filter.

Does anyone know if they are interchangable or if not, how much work is required to make the 924 Turbo one fit an '89 944 Turbo?

Thanks

They only fit the standard 944's not the turbo or s2 due to the shape of the headlamp pods and the bumper as the standard 944/924 T are slightly flatter at the front !!

No they are not interchangeable, the width and length are both different. They can be made to fit but the badge panel will start about an inch further back from the front PU. Rick has done this and there are probably some pictures in the section of his website for his car www.cannell.co.uk

If you want a perfect fit your best bet would be to buy the vents from an OPC and have a bodyshop cut four holes in a 944T badge panel

I was thinking of doing this, hoping as well as looking good it would help cool the engine a little. I think it looks pretty good on Ricks car, without any effort to address the difference in curvature. Rick, if you're about, did you actually make any modifications because I couldn't really tell from your website? Thanks, Ben.

On a similar but related topic, you can buy kits that make the front of the Lux models look like a Turbo/S2. Presumably the kit comprises a replacement bumper unit, which fits (at the back) onto the Lux wings and badge panel, but at the front has the smoother look.

How good are these kits? As in, do they look like a botch-job, or are they a convincing Turbo/S2 replica? Does anyone have any photos?

If you use Turbo/S2 lights they can look indistinguishable from a genuine one at first glance, by that I mean they don't look like an aftermarket add-on to a non-anorak [;)] To an experienced eye the join with the wing is a dead giveaway though & to my eyes makes it look odd in a way that the standard lux front doesn't.

I think if you want to change the lux front I think the (924) Carrera GT look suits it better than the Turbo/S2 aftermarket nose. Personally I think the Lux nose (with fogs) has a character of it's own that I rather like [:)]

Interesting ... which lights are you referring to? Not the pop-up ones, I am guessing?

Anyone have photos of such a kit fitted?

Hmm, interesting.

That red early one with the turbo front and the 968 rear looked pretty convincing. I wouldn't have known it started from a Lux front if I hadn't read the rubrik.

Thanks.

Just done a quick google search & found this

The above doesn't use the original fog/spot lights, the real turbo/S2 lights (in the bumper) are almost flush but they aren't cheap.

Also if anyone has an old panel they dont want i will happily spend some time modifying it to encorporate a grille. Anyone got one they dont want? If successfull would produce a mould. would also need to no clearence from air box top.
