Does this qualify as the most obscure request to date? []
Anyone got the front bumper off their car at the moment? would they care to check a few dimensions for me whilst they are at it? (or do you have a 'spare' car lying about in a dismantled state?) Let me know if you can oblige and I'll tell you what I need to know. It won't take long and I won't even hold you responsible if you get the measurements wrong and my plan goes awry !!! []
OK, I'll give you a clue - it's to do with towing points for sprinting the car. I don't want marshalls hooking up their tow ropes to my new GRP front end and pulling it off [&:]
Phil
this is early cars with the same bolt-on front bumper as the 924. Don't know if the chassis of later models is the same. If it is, OK.
I have my front bumper off just now, but it's a Turbo PU rather than a Lux/924 one. If it's any use then let me know what measurements you need as it's going back on tomorrow or Saturday.
Cheers Fen, hopefully the front member is the same. I've got a couple of photos (not with me at the moment but I'll post them later this afternoon).
I basically need to know the distance from the top set of bumper-iron holes down to the horizontal swage line (the one just above where the light cables are cable-tied across the front member) [&:] . I'll post the pics to explain more, and try and attach a sketch []
Phil, I'm going out the door now so I'll try to measure what I can and I have my camera to take decent pictures for you. What I can tell you already is that the front of my car has a big steel bar behind the top part of the PU with a tow hook thread in the middle of it (it's in the middle of the slot above the number plate when fitted). That bar mounts on two (very surface-rusty) tubular mounts about 3 inches long which I believe are collapsible. Apart from that the front of the car is sheet metal or plastic.
That sounds pretty much like what I'm trying to rig up myself. I'm trying to get a threaded towing point that comes out of the same slot you describe. I've fitted a grp 'S2' type front to my 924 - have a look at the foot of this thread
What I can't guarantee is that the slot is in the same place as yours. I'd also rather not strip it all down to take a couple of measurements and then wait whilst I get a towing bracket made up before re-assembling - hence getting the info. in advance.

I've got a sketch but only in pdf format. Can you pm me an e-mail address that I can send it to?
Photo's of the 'tow-bar' that you have would be good, that might be all I need to buy, ready made [].
Hi Fen, like a dumbo I've left the pdf on my laptop at work so I can't send that to you, but here's a photo through the slot above the number plate. I'm interested in the dimension down from the top 'tow bracket' mounting holes to the swage line just above the cables/studs that you can see. If your tow bracket mounts anything like the Lux style (and I can't imagine they changed the front crossmember) it will be held on with 4 off M10 (I think) bolts on ~ 685 x 80mm centres.
Phil, I spoke to my specialist of choice and he said the 924 is totally different. Where on the Turbo the strength is the beam and everything else is thin sheet on the 924 the front of the car makes up a rigid box and the bumper iron is apparently held on by 4 bolts. I didn't take any measurements but I have these pics. I haven't fitted the PU yet though in case it gets scratched so I can measure tomorrow if you want.
