Front bumper Removal

Can somebody please help me with the correct procedure for removing the front bumper. (87 Targa)

I've taken the front rubbing strip off and the 4 bolts underneath.

Do I need to take the spoiler and sill off? It feels like there's another bolt on each side, I assume the corner rubber comes off with the bumber and is released from behind.

I'd be grateful for any help and advice.

You need to remove the nuts securing the bumper bellows from behind the bumper each side then pull the bellows out so that the studs clear the bumper.
If you have removed the protective strip you should see the 4 nuts and washers that hold the bumper on just remove them and the bumper should just pull away
Dont forget the parking lights disconnect the wiring harness from the reflector and remove the reflector
I would get a new set of bellows first because you will break one or more of the studs that hold them on

Sorry, can't help with removal.
Cheeky request:
But once it's off, do you mind weighing the whole bumper?
(I wanted to know if the 964 front bumper was any lighter)
Thanks

Thanks Graham,

Does it matter which set of bellow nuts, I can't access the ones holding the bellows to the bumper, I can get to the ones holding the bellows to the bodywork near the wheel arch - trouble is getting a spanner on either set. I can't even tell what size to put on. I've left some WD40 to do its stuff over night. It's going to be harder on the other side because of th oil cooler!

Can somebody please help me

Cant help but I just got this mental picture of you covered in grunge under your car with your camers and all your neighbours peeping out of their curtains, shaking their heads in sympathy...... 'Look, Dear, he's at it again!!!'

I built a Westfield before I bought this, they're used to me.... still all want a spin when the sun's shinning though.

I found it easy to cut the bellows in half first, remove the bumper and then undo the the nuts and bolts.
replacing the belows is very fiddley - good luck!

I think Jacob is right it may be the best way to go because the studs that are fixed into the rubber will turn and you will have more room when the bumper is off to get at them
Good luck

yes it is an 8mm spanner you need. when you take off/remove the old bellow and fit new ones make sure you take out the metal support spring in the old bellows and fit them in the new ones, this stops the bellows from sagging inwards.

ps.just a thought, does your head light washer work ok, if not then replace it now as you have to take off the bumper to get to this.

Thanks for all the help. The bumper is off at the expense of both bellows (half of which are still attached to the car).

I'm looking forward to remounting it when it's been repsrayed.

ziachowdhury - the bumper weights 6.5 kg without any rubbbers lights etc.

Not that heavy then
I think most of the weight is in the mechanics of these items, so removing these as the Clubsports have will make a worthwhile weight saving and preserve the look of the 3,2
