Front Bumper

Someone drove into my car in a car park (and drove off without leaving a note) and put a decent dent in the front bumper, which I think is a write off. Anyone know what the correct part number is for a '99 C4?

How bl**dy annoying and frustrating.

The part number shown on PET is 996.505.311.04.G2X (G2X=Primer Coated), but it is shown as being superceded by 996.505.311.07.

Hi,

don't know if you're interested but...

~3 years ago someone did the same to my 2000 C4 cab, but fortunately the offending driver was spotted, and his insurance coughed up for a brand new bumper & light cluster.

The damage to the bumper was largely superficial (scuff and a broken fixing, if I remember correctly) but the insurance paid for a brand new bumper!

Had we been unable to make a claim (for example, if the driver had "escaped") then I'd have had the bumper resprayed & certainly wouldn't have gone to the expense of a new bumper.

I retained the old bumper. If you're interested I could send you photos of the damage as you might want to consider buying this off me and repairing. re-using it yourself?

PM me if interested.

Neil.

Tks. That's what I thought. There's one on ebay part no 986 505 311 08. Is that for a Boxster? Would it fit?

I've had a word with myself. I'm not going to fit a boxster bumper.

Tks. I noticed the damage filling up with fuel so I'm not sure when or where it happened.

I'm not actually too bothered. The bumper isn't the original one and not a genuine Porsche part. I've been looking for an excuse to replace it and the air inlet plastic, which is very faded. I was just about to get that done and the bonnet blown over (v stone chipped) and some surface rust done that has appeared on the offside front wheel arch. Pic of damage below. It's odd how low down it starts. If you think this can be saved, that would be good to know. I'll get the body shop's view next week at some point.

Well its not as if they might not have noticed with a dent like that. Is it worth trying to see if you can get to review any security camera footage if you can find an obliging store manager, after all you know the supermarket. What an endictment of the society we live in. Absolute merchant bankers. Any body who drives away from any kind of shunt should have their licence revoked and have to retake thier test if they get caught. One would assume that these mindless individuals would cry blue murder if the tables were turned on them so what's the harm in leaving a note? My 928 was struck by an idiot who was driving one handed, we know this because he was firing a paint ball gun. He veered into the front offside of my 928 and ran away like a coward, but unfortunately for him his car was badly damaged and he had to stop and get help to pull the wing away from the front wheel. He reckoned without the vigilance of my next door neighbour who saw the crowd around the car and conveniently photographed it with his mobile. When he then saw the 928 he put two and two together and I was able to give the police a lead via the registration number. Two days later a sheepish youth knocked on my door admitting fault, but by then I had put the matter in the hands of the police and politely wished him every success in getting everything that was coming to him and closed the door.

The body shop I use are amazing at removing dent from bumpers. Kustom101 in Tewkesbury. Google should help with any more details.

They will remove, repair and repaint for about £300, based on my experience.

Cheers for the replies. I've popped the dent out using the sucker off a Garmin satnav and from a few meters away it's not too bad. I'll give that Tewkesbury place a call - that's not far from me.
