Front compartment problem

Anyone know how to open the front compartment when the mechanical linkage seems to have too much slack and won't release the mechanism? It's been heading this way for a while but now seems terminal - camera is stuck in there! If no clues then to the dealer ....

There is an emergency release cable behind the black plastic fender liner. On a RHD it should be on the left side. Jeff

Sorry, the black plastic fender liner is .. where? Can you give me some more details? Cheers

Actually it is still on the right side.

Jeff means the wheel arch liner when he says "fender liner".[;)]
The release is towards the top-front. There is a bit of work involved getting to it though... I'll try and dig out the details

For obvious reasons, otherwise there would be no point having a lock on the bonnet. You may as well have a couple of pins in the corners.

Here are some old messages. http://forum.boxa.net/index.php?showtopic=3761 He found it on the left side on his RHD. On all LHD cars I have worked on it is on the right. Maybe with LHD cars porsche switches sides every other car to confuse the owner.[:)]

Hmmm.

On my 2001 MY car the emergency release is definitely on the drivers side. I know because I've had the nose off, and re-routed the cable a little...

Strange. Maybe it depends if Hans or Fritz puts the car together.

Right after I got my car I extended the release cable to the sidemarker, so I can never be locked out.

Thanks for all the help - the idea of rooting around behind both wings looking for this cable (not very practical person me!) wasn't too appealing and it had to go to the dealer anyway so it's there now. True though, that if the emergency release was easy to find there's no point having it lockable in the first place.
