Front crankshaft seal oil leak

Just noticed I have an oil leak from the front crankshaft seal. I suspect this is going to be a pretty big bill. I have been quoted just over a tenner for the seal but looking under the car it seems to be an engine or xmember removal. Am I correct?

Also I am getting the engine oil light on intermitently, the level has not dropped on the dipstick though and pressure is constant, could this be the sender or do you think its relevent to the oil leak.

Is there anything else I should ask the garage to do that will add little cost to the bill but will save money over the long run whilst they are doing this, apart fom an engine and oil change?

Fear not ! Changing the front crank oil seal is actually pretty straight forward. You don't need to remove the engine, torque tube etc.

In fact its the sort of job that can easily be added to a belts/pulley change. The biggest hassle is removing front crank pulley bolt to remove the pulley (should be @ 240lbft !).

Before you or a mechanic dive in to fix this, is it defnitely the crank seal or maybe the oil pump oil around the sump ?
