Front dash speaker removal

Hi,

Having just returned from my local DIY store with a hex set I am at a loss. The two dash speakers are held in with what look like 2 hex screws each, however my set which has 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm,and 6mm non would fit.

Seemed like the 3mm was too small and the 4 was too big so do I need to source a 3.5mm key or have I got the wrong tool altogether??

Any help appreciated.

Regards Alan.

HI. Are the screws the ones with the little centre "posts" which stick up right in the middle of the Hex bit? If they are then you'll need the tool bits which have the little recess in them to accommodate the post bit. If your tool bits don't have the recess then none of them will be able to fit in due to the post sticking up in the middle.....?

You have allen keys & what you need are Torx bits (star shaped). Specifically, you need a T20 torx bit. If you have a Maplin near you, they do comprehensive sets for about £5 & really comprehensive sets for £10 - look for Rolson tools.

Hi,

Thanks for the replys, my brother has just extracted the urine out of me and given me a lecture on the differences on allen keys and Torx drivers[:)][:(].

He is so concerned that he is now offering to do the job for me

Tell him to bog off, Alan![:D] ...And remember, if you ever find that the car's not performing as well as the salesman said - make sure you're sat behind the large wheel thing on the right. [:D]

They are, as Nick says, standard T20 Torx screws - not security Torx. Rolson also make a useful offset ratchet which makes it much easier to get the screws out. It takes standard 6mm hex bits, and you can pick them up on eBay for around a fiver.
