front diff whine

I'm not particularly concerned (yet!) but I have a very slight whine from what I think can only be the front diff. from around 40mph on my 1999 C4 Cab (I still have the hard-top on so every noise is noticeable inside. As I have no experience of C4's or any a/w/d for that matter, is this usual / is there anything which can be done to deduce the noise; as I say it is very slight, and my wife's not even noticed it - I can certainly live with it if it's nothing to worry about.
 
I would start by changing the front diff oil. The scheduled time is 96000 miles, but it always seems a bit too long an interval to me.
 
I bought my C4 with a whine from the front diff. changed oil a couple of 100 miles ago and now only very slightly noticeable if you know what to listen for.
Just a pain getting to the level and drain plugs.
