Front Disc Removal - brake line bracket

Hi,

I am looking for some advice on replacing the front brake discs/pads. I have read the "technical article" within the 996 forum area, but when looking at my Caliper I see a different view to that photographed in the technical article (for the boxter).

I have a 2003 996 carrera 4. At the rear of the caliper are 2 bolts holding a bracket. This bracket holds the interface between solid brake line and flexible brake line, plus 2 electical connectors.

I am assuming I need to remove both bolts to the bracket and remove both the electrical connections in order to get enough flexibility/movement to remove the caliper out of the way (to replace the discs)? If so do the electrical connectors just pull off (as there seems to be another smaller bracket holding them on)?

Thanks, Jason

Does this help:

Thanks Richard,

.... so I need to remove the 2 bolts for the bracket & also the 2 electrical connectors. I gave the connectors a quick tug earlier, but I guess a little more force is needed. [:D] Wasn't sure whether I needed to take the spring clip off, or whether just bending it away would do the trick.

BTW: Is this diag from the 3.6 or the 3.4 manual? It still looks slightly different to what I see.

Trouble is, it's a long time since I did this, and I was only a helper anyway, so didn't take too much note of the finer points.

The diagram is from POSES, but I did check the earlier manual and the illustration is the same. However, 3.4 and 3.6 use the same caliper and wear sensors, so it should be the same. Only the C4S has different calipers (same as Turbo) and the only difference between yours and a C2 is that they are painted titanium colour.

If you tried today then hopefully you realised the second 'bracket' you refer to that holds the plugs into the socket is hinged and you pop it off to the side to pull out the plugs.

Gezr .... havent replaced them as of yet, as still a bit of wear left, so will do it in a few months time when it is a bit warmer. I had the front wheel off so was just looking at what was involved, in an attempt to make sure there were no suprises half way through the job (when I do it).

Thanks for the tip regarding the hinged clip.

Regards, Jason
