Front end knocking noises

2005 C2S Manual.........Hi all, experiencing some knocking/very light thudding noise from the front. Can't say for sure if it when I turn or if I go over an uneven surface. Paragon GB have inspected the car and can't find anything loose or out of alignment. Wondering if others have had anything similar. It has covered 65K miles.

I've had the same symptoms - and took the car back a few times under warranty before they sorted it. In my case it was the suspension top mounts, which were replaced and it solved the problem.

However, 12 months later, a similar noise has returned - and my indie has replaced a lower control arm, which hasn't resolved it.
I'm beginning to think the struts might need reconditioning - so thinking about booking it in at Centre-Gravity.

It's only noticeable at slow speeds, but is quite annoying!

You might have some play in your top mounts. Even a slight amount of play can lead to the noise you described. Sometimes play in the front anti-roll bar drop links can make a similar noise.
However, Paragon have an exceptionally good Team of people so you are in good hands in terms of their professional advice.

Worn drop link, lower control arm or top mount bushes. If you can find a piece of cobbled road and drive over it, it'll sound like snooker balls rattling together.
identify which it is and fit replacements.
Regards,

Clive

Concur with previous - the only other item we regularly replace to resolve front knocking is the very inexpensive anti-roll bar bushes. Difficult to diagnose without disconnecting the drop links.

Some great advice there, thanks folks.

Horsesoldiers, hope you get yours sorted soon. Let us know what the diagnosis is

Dear all,
I had this knocking on a 996 and it was the drop links.
I bought new links for all four corners and it resolved it. Parts cost me about £150 and the whole job took about 4 hours. I'm a complete mechanical novice but there are only two bolts to undo per link so it is very easy.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't - as others have said - drop links or top mounts, but I am surprised that Paragon didn't pick up on which during their alignment inspection...

Could be top suspension mounts:
check this video, I know it's about a 996 but all the same issues. I had my front coffin arms replaced on gen 2 997 at 10k miles for a knocking creaking noises.... amazingly this was not covered by warranty at 2years old ???? ware and tear apparently... gotta love OPC
