Front fog light - left or right

Hi, I'm new to the forum and 944 S2 ownership and would like someone to answer a simple question for me.
My drivers side foglight is broken and I require a new lens, I've seen a few on the web, however they all state for the left or right, how is this viewed?

If sat in the drivers seat, I need the right side lens, if viewed from the front of the car I need the left side lens, which is correct and what lens do I need?

Many thanks

Gary

Hi Gary

Welcome. Typically they should be referred to as Nearside and Offside, but I realise that people will not follow that rule. I would therefore assume that left/right is taken from the steering wheel position. Out of curiousity where are you thinking of getting your new lens from? Frazerpart sell them for £95 and I have just fitted one myself. No affiliation - just very pleased with their service and attention to detail.

Alternatively if your driver's side lamp is shattered, and you want a not perfect, but perfectly adequate solution I have one that's cracked but free to a good home. See here for more details. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=449631

This photo shows that the driver's side lamp will have the clear part of the lens nearest the numberplate position.

Bear in mind that the foglight design is different on the Lux models to that on the S2 and Turbo models. (Look at pictures of the front bumpers of the cars to see why!)

James is selling one for an S2, so if yours is an S2 or Turbo it will fit. If it's a Lux it won't.

Oli - read Gary's first post and you'll see it's an S2. Do pay attention at the back! [:D][:D][:D]

I'm sure it didn't say that before. Gary, have you edited your post? (Please say "Yes" quickly or I'll look as daft as the Register Secretary who thinks that 944's are FWD ... OK, not quite that daft but you see what I mean! [:D] )

Hi James, Many thanks for the offer and I would like to take you up on it, as my fog light has a 30mm hole from where a piece a glass fell out, currently it has tape over it to stop the weather getting at the reflective surface so a lens with just a crack should vastly improve things.

I've been looking at a site called http://www.forestfine.co.uk/ as I also need the trim set as the right handside trim is broken at the top. Of course I'm willing to donate to a charity and pay the postage, just let me know how you want to proceed?

Regards

Gary
