Front grille removal...... Help please!

Just giving my '97 C4 narrow body its annual check over, and I want to remove some of the crap that has accumulated around the base of the oil cooler. Easiest way is if I could remove the 'meshed' center section of the front lower grille. It appears to be a separate section, but I can't see how it's fixed in...... any clues would be much appreciated.

It is on little clips that click into it from the bumper, but the best bet is to remove the bumper as a whole as it is only a 20 min job. Look on p-car for pictures.
