Front grills

I have used Zunsport grills on my cayman sport s ,they are easy to fit in a few mins will do the job keeping leaves and debris out of vents and protect rads. Did not fit as flush as i would have liked. Maybe a better fit on a later model could not say. But for my R when i get around to it would prefer a different grill maybe something from behind the grill bars thats an easy fit without bumper removal. Someone will be along soon with a solution for behind grill bars. But as said Zunsport will do the trick. Cliff.

I'm a newbie to the forum so I hope my question isn't naive.

I've just had to have the a/c condenser (front near side) replaced on my 2014 Cayman S because of stone damage. A common issue I've since learnt. I've been looking around for front grills to hopefully reduce the risk of another punctured condenser.

I've been looking at the Zunsport front grill sets. They seem to be custom designs and easy to fit. Does anyone have any comments on them of other recommendations please?

Thanks
Graham

+1 for Zunsport. I had them on my 987 Gen 2 Cayman S and now on my 981 Boxster S. As Tracy says, easy to fit. Also very easy to remove then refit if you have to visit your Porsche Centre for service etc and your particular centre regards them as compromising Porsche warranty - you can't so easily do that with mesh that requires bumper removal. They are very robust and (the black ones at least) looked just as good after 47k miles as they did when new. On my 981, the grilles are multi-part per side and fit between the horizontal strakes. These are slightly more fiddly to fit than the one-piece design for my 987 Cayman which fitted in front of the strakes, but offended the aesthetics for some people who prefer any mesh to be behind. Hope that helps.

Hi Graham I run a 2005 Cayman s and it's on my "to do" list I've also looked around and I'm going to purchase the zunsport ones, Dealer told me my co censors looked "tired". Let us know how you get on & if straight forward to fit ( I did see a company called Rennlist advertise them but I'm not sure if they are UK based or not) Cheers steve

Many of us use this to protect the air vents in front bumpers [link=http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/car-accessories/exterior-styling/ripspeed-diamond-competition-mesh]http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/car-accessories/exterior-styling/ripspeed-diamond-competition-mesh[/link] Regards, Clive.

Thanks Clive. Obviously a much cheaper option. How do you fix to the air vents? Cable ties? Does the finished result look good? Graham

I fitted the Zunsports to my CR. They are well made but don't fit as well as they should using the intended method. I had to use a few tie wraps to keep them in position properly

This is the mesh (black version) fitted to a 997. You can get an idea of how to fit it here [link=https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.asp?m=613041]https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.asp?m=613041[/link]

Looks good. Unfortunately I don't have permission to see the link. It appears my status is "Guest of the club" rather than a member. I don't know how to change that.

I followed Clive's advice last year and fitted the grilles to my 997.2 turbo. Very happy with the result and there's no impact on operating temperature. Porsche will tell you that the grilles will restrict air-flow which may be the case but it is nothing compared to the restriction caused by the accumulated debris. As it happens, a pheasant came to grief when it hit my car which damaged the plastic frame of one of the side vents so I am waiting for some good weather to take the front off again and replace the frame, hopefully reuse the mesh in that section and see how well they have been protecting the aircon rads. Before the grilles, it was the most unbelievable mess in there. Taking the front off may seem daunting at first and it's always a job to do with care so as not to damage either the car or the front but once you've done it once, it's really quite straightforward. Everyone has their own tips, mine would be to remove both headlights and jack the car up on both sides to allow you to get to the wheel arch liner fixings without removing the wheels. I fitted the grilles to the front with a combination of self-tapping screws, the type with a wide flat head and small black cable ties which if you have slats can be hidden from view.

The Zunsports grills arrived today. They took approx 45 mins to fit after a bit of fiddling. The Side grills are in 3 pieces so probably not as rigid as a single grill. But because they fit between the slats in the bodywork they look good. I used a small cable tie on the inside edge of each side to prevent them pinging off if hit by a substantial stone. Here are a couple of pics: [link=http://www.grahamrussell.info/images/grill1.jpg]Side grill[/link] [link=http://www.grahamrussell.info/images/grill2.jpg]Front of car[/link]
