Front lid access and channel tunnel clearance

I could do with some help with two things:

1. The battery in my C4 is 100% flat. It's been in my father's garage whilst I've been looking for a buyer. So I can't open the front compartment. The manual tells you that you can connect a car battery to a connnection on the fuseboard. But I believe there is also access to a cable that you can pull, but where exactly is that? Passenger or driver wheel arch and where exactly?

2. I am taking my 996TT on the channel shuttle next week. Will I have a ground clearance issue with the front skirt?

Hi there.

1. If it's a 2004 then you'll have the electronic release mech so you're going to have to find a battery from somewhere to pop the lid. You'll also need some jump leads. Connect +ve to the pull out connection on the fuse box (drivers footwell) and -ve to the receiver for the drivers door mech attached to your inner door liner (the loop thing - can't remember the correct term) to earth it.

When you're connected up just pull the lid release button like you normally do.

Hasn't your alarm been going off due to the lack of battery...?

2. I have a 996.2 with M030 suspension (which I think is standard on the 996TT) and I've never had a problem getting on the shuttle. I usually get put upstairs too which would definitely cause problems if there were going to be any. If in doubt just call your ticket supplier and get them to allocate you to a downstairs slot - this should definitely be ok.

Only problem I ever had was when I Motor Rail'd the car down to Brieve once. The guy in Calais put the anti-roll bars through under the car in front of the back wheels and behind the front wheels instead of the other way 'round. The car 'settled' on the night run down there and we couldn't get the one out from behind the front wheels. Nightmare. It was 6am and there we were with crowbars and all manner of implements trying to get the bloody thing out. It almost got to angle grinder time when I just managed to pop it out. Amazingly there was no damage to the paintwork of underside of the car!
Needless to say - I got them to use sand bags instead on the return journey[;)]

My C4 is MY 2002 and has an electrical release. I tried connecting a charger to the connector in the fusebox but I suspect it doesn't have sufficient power. I've not tried jump leads from another battery yet.

I know there is a cable release hidden under one of the wheel arches, just not sure which wheel arch or where.

Also: thanks for letting me know that I shouldn't have an issue on the shuttle.
 
I've taken my 968 on the shuttle a few times, and when the "direction person" tried to put me upstairs I just waved, said no I want to go downstairs - and was put downstairs!
 
If you get desperate, the emergency release cable is under the headlight tray on the driver's side. You have to pull the wheel arch liners back, and grope around it there until you find it.

If the car was locked when the battery went flat, it will go off when you connect a battery to the pull-out terminal in the fuse box. Put the key in the door before you connect the battery, and if it goes off when you connect, turn the key to the lock position and back to silence it. The release button should then work on the sill, or remote.
 
With regards to Chunnel, if you book as a high vehicle or car with roof rack etc (same price as normal car) you will always be on lower deck with coaches etc
 
I've only once needed to say "It's lower than you think, I need to go on the lower deck". The rest of the time they have automatically guided me there.
(M030 sport suspension - slightly lower!)

RAC man turned up with booster and as soon as he connected via the fusebox we were able to pop the lid open - so all sorted now :)
