Front Oil cooler location

Were is the oil cooler located in the 87 3.2s. Out for a long run on Sunday, sat in traffic in the hot sun, me in the passenger seat which doesn't happen very often, and noticed a lot of hot air coming onto my feat. Had a quick grope around and it felt quit hot around that area.

I assume that this is due to the front oil cooler, as once we got moving again it all but stopped?

I assume that the heater was off? Could you feel hot air coming through the footwell vent?

This sounds to me more a case of the passenger side heater flapper box seizing - a common fault. I had the same issue on a long drive a week ago. I've just inspected the flapper boxes and the issue was the cable on one was slightly bent, meaning the spring was not strong enough to return it to the fully open (cold) position.

I think you will find it is located in the front of the drivers side front wheel arch.

Forgot to mention that I have a LHD car, so it could well be in the passenger well.

Yes the heating was off, was blooming hot enough as it was, I did think that the heating could be on, my two year old likes to drive the car, and turned the heating on last week. Took ages to work out why I was sweating so much[:D]

That could well be it - how do you get to them?

Oil coolers still in the offside front wheel arch on a LHD car, its in front of the wheel so I would'nt have thought the heat is getting through to the passenger (LHD) footwell, its sounds more like a heater flap at the back end of the car not opening properly to vent the hot air.

You need to lift the car at the rear onto axle stands. If you look under the car just above the CV joint, you'll see that there is a hose that runds from the front of the heat exchangers into a box like contraption with a round vent. This is the flapper box. You'll see a cable that runs from this (which connects to the heater control in the car). You should be able to move the vent to open and close the holes. If the holes are closed, the heat goes into the cabin and if the holes are open, the heat vents out (heating is off). Not a very sophisticated system!

Is definitely the heating staying on!

Thanks for the advise will have a look and see what happens. My two year old was twisting the control like mad the other week, so it might be possible he caused some damage.

Mark.
