Front outboard CV boot replacement

Front N/S CV boot has gone, how easy a job is it to get the drive shaft out to replace the boot?
Looked at a couple of comments that make for a big job having to disconnect the coffin box arm plus a few more bits to allow the drive shaft to be removed from the hub. Comments or tricks on how to do it with minimal loss of skin or expletive.
Any one had it done at an Indi - cost?
Will probably go for it DIY but time may be against me this leave.

Hello,

Can't comment on the job but as all CV boots I should imagine its a right pita.

Im always dreading cv boots.

Good luck if you do go the DIY route.

Looks like you have to split the track rod ball joint, the joint on the wishbone (coffin arm), undo the diagonal brace, drive shaft bolts, and hub nut, and then the drive shaft "just" slides out. Book time to remove/replace the drive shaft is about 1.5 hours. Boot is about £30 from Mr P.

Probably not, but if you are very picky you could get it checked - the ball joints should go back together in exactly the same place (if you don't loosen the track rod), but the diagonal brace may sit slightly differently in the bolt holes. It would be fractional though, and I can't see it listed as an additional operation in the manual.

Home from sea today so had first good look at the job, looks reasonable just hope the hub nut will move without too much of a fight. Pity there is not enough room to drop the inboard end and fit the new boot without dropping the suspension / steering. Just need a bit of luck and a good warm day.
