Front pads and discs for £650 @ OPC

patch

New member
Hi - I'd appreciate your thoughts on this cost (pads almost on the sensors now, discs 37k miles). quoted to me yesterday at a preferential £65 per hour labour and 10% off parts. Do you have any comparable Indie prices or opinions.
All the best

Also think about having the discs skimmed. Most setups can take 2 or 3 skimmings before replacement. About £180 plus about £60 for new bits (dampers etc).

I'd seek some advice from an independent garage - the OPC will judge the condition of the brakes on whether they will make it safely through to the next service. And Porsche specialist would charge around £450 for the same work with OE parts, or you can buy the OE parts yourself for £300.

Get a price elsewhere and go back tot he OPC - they will often come down on price. With your PCGB member 10% discount on parts prices sounds like they aren't offering you any deal at all on labour rate.

You can always call other OPCs for prices too ;)

I had my rears done yesterday at OPC for 566 quid although one was rusted on so it cost me an extra 92 quid for them to get the thing rethreaded so with discount it was 622 quid (they did try to charge me 677 quid but I pointed out their mistake !!)

I had fronts done at indy last month for 550 quid IIRC so I went to porsche this time as I thought with discount I would get it cheaper but he ho i didnt because of this rusted bolt. Same thing happened at Indy and they never charged me for rusted bolt just re thread it and spent extra 2 hours sorting it , Stayed nearly 2 hours past closing time to get car to me that evening where as I had to wait an extra day at Porsche.

Indy for me now for everything.

Had clutch done last month and tyres being fitted tomorrow so spent 2700 quid on car in last few weeks. Still hopefully the discs and clutch will last a good few years. Contis lasted 5 months though so changing to Pirellis to see what they are like.

[FONT=arial"]I'd agree that at £650 it's not a discount as you'd get the same with just your PCGB parts discount.

These were the Porsche prices last time I looked in September so they may have risen slightly.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

indies will still be cheaper than opc ,

ours start at £340 +vat onwards including fitting..[8|] including sensors and dampers

Which is fine until I try to renew my warranty in October.

I would much rather pay an Indie £400 or so, but Porsche have put a stop to that.

fair point [:D]

but if you are on the old style warranty can't you have your work done wherever you choose.

Yes, but come the renewal in October any non-Porsche parts will cause the car to fail the 111 point check required to renew.

I rang Hartech and 911 Sport and the OPC matched the best price for me.

October will be the last time I renew, so after then it will be Indie's all the way.

it is a shame they did that the warranty system though as they must have lost more than they have sold..

don't know if your interested strickers but we are having a guy detailing on the 22nd feb from autoshine specialists valeting... top guy if anyone interested.. free feed too

I had bolts on the front and rear of my car that were rusted on, they both had to be re threaded so that pushed the price up a bit .

i have just paid £330 at an opc to have the front pads changed. an indi wanted the same money. what are your thoughts

If you are talking about a 996 - find another indy!

Edit: And another OPC! Porsche menu price for C2/C4 front pads is £318 including VAT.

think opc have lifted your leg at £330 for pads fitting... as rich says find another the robbing dogs

Get a steel thread insert fitted (HeliCoil, TimeSert, etc). Just as strong, if not stronger, than the original thread. Any decent indy, or a machine shop, will do it for you. When you reassemble the bolts in the ali threads, use Alu-slip anti-seize compound, and you shouldn't have the same problem next time.
