Front shocks

My Boge front shocks ('87 Carrera Sport) are up for replacement and I understand that I can opt for Boge, Bilstein, Koni or other inserts.

Any views on the pros and cons of the rival brands would be welcome.

Hi Sideways,

I have new Boge inserts on the front of mine. They were not my choice, the previous owner fited them. They are a bit spongy for my liking, roads around here are very bumpy so the ride might be a bit comfier but I would prefer a stiffer front end.

My plan is to go Bilstein next year, had them on my last 3 series, an E30 325i and they kicked ass, they were superb. Will also go with stiffer anti roll bar as well as a strut brace to get the front much harder than it is at the minute. Don't mind a bit of movement at the back so will probably keep torsion bars that are on it, go to Turbo anti roll bar and Bilsteins again just to sharpen it up.

Have used Koni on a variety of different applications - campers, regular cars and some quick Renault 5's I have had over the years, they were great but I would go Bilstein every time to be honest, just feel like they have a lot of control without being too hard.

I plan to rebuild and upgrade my suspension later this year. I currently use Bilstein 'sport' shocks and intend to replace with the same or get the car weighed and revalve them, I would recommend Bilstein for street use.
