Front spoiler

Can anyone hazard a guess as to whether this'll fit ?

As I'm re-doing the front end at the moment I'd really like to get rid of the standard front bumper - to my mind it's the worst looking part of the whole car and appears 'unfinished'.

I realise that the end of this are going to be flared out to mate with the front wings of a Carrera GT, but I don't know how much that's likely to be. Nor how flexible this panel might be to make it fit. it just loks so much more integrated than the standard front end.

I suspect it's a non-starter...... if you look at the picture of the GT's parked in a line at Walton Hall (half way down the page) I can see the flare is actually quite wide. I can't see how to make that work. Thought I'd ask though in case anyone's got ideas.

Some time back there was a kit available to make the front of a 924 look like an s2 WITHOUT the flared wheel arches and it bolted straight on. I don't know if it's still made or available. I don't think the front for a carrera gt will fit. Funny isn't it? I find the shape of the 924 aesthetically pleasing.

I was doing it from memory when I sent yesterdays mail, but having had a good look last night I can see that isn't going to fit. The seam on the 944 (and C-GT) front wings is horizontally along the swage line, and that's where this panel joins (as it does on all 944's)

The std 924 has front wings that come right down to meet the front valance. I thought there might be a seam where the plastic strip is fitted ahead of the wheel arch but no, it's a full panel.

I think the 924 is generally very smooth lined, better than a lot of 944's, but the front bumper looks too much of an after-thought - it doesn't blend in.

cheers ......... Phil

Up to you from now on Phil, go here < http://www.pro-9.co.uk/initialpage.htm

i have always thought that there are areas of the 924 which need a little attension to elavate the overall shape. I have also looked into the front replacement spoiler, but as from the pictures on the web-site Mr Nutter pointed out, i think the 924's body line just can't carry it off and looks front heavy. Bu you can tell me to mind my own business, however i would agree that the front end does look unfinished, i have thought about filling in the bumper so it flows without any gaps?

Yes, I've considered trying to make it more flush myself but can't see how to do it too easily. Thinking about the Pro-9 kit at the moment. Had a chat to them earlier.

Phil

In the darker colours yes it does look a bit heavy, especially as the basic shape seems to come from the S2 front which has a more pronounced curve to the badge panel; this results in the upper horizontal infill being wider that it is on the real thing, but I could get used to a front like that on the ebay monster, in red. I wasn't sure if pro9 were still trading. What's the current price Phil? I might need a low effort project when I'm convalescing. FYI all, I have an appointment with the consultant on the 10th June so I'll be around for a bit yet.

A few years ago, when I was buying my 924S from Barry Hart at Hartech, he had a 924 in that he was doing a 968 front end conversion, but I think that was much more than a bolt on job!

I think that the front end of the 924 CGT is the best looking of all the 924/944 range.........but then you would expect me to say that [:)]

Not sure if the "Why ?" is for the first or second statement, anyway, here goes.

I find the front end of the CGT to be very clean, yet it also seems to emphasise the bulbous front wings. The combination of the bolt on wheel arch extensions rather than the steel countoured wings of the 944, the mean looking intercooler intake, front vents and the lower ride height just make the car look like it's moving even when stood still......and for the second part, just look at the avatar and username.[:)]

I expect the 944 boys will be along in a moment to defend their honour [:)]

Ahhh. Sometimes the subtleties of speech don't quite translate into the written word, do they. Still, at least nobody disagreed with me [;)]

Hi all, back from hols if you were wondering about the silence (don't tell me you hadn't noticed [])

Anyway, I've ordered the Pro-9 front end plus their S2 indicator lenses (need the bodies - anyone got some?). Retailing at £175, no VAT + £20 postage. Ordered it before we went away, expect to take delivery this week - can't wait. Ity had better look good or I'll be well upset. Part of the logic was that I was going to be re-spraying the front-end anyway so that cost didn't come into it. Plus I thought if I spent money on tidying up and spraying the front end I'd kick myself later if I hadn't taken the plunge to fit this.

Pics etc. will follow.

cheers all ......... Phil

Update.

Moulding quality - OK-ish. Needed quite a lot of finishing ( I guess at the price I shouldn't expect too much). It's at the painters at the moment and they tell me they've had quite a game with it. I pick it up tomorrow - hope it's not too depressing.

Fit - hmmmm. One side the profile (in plan view) is excellent, the other (driver) side the profile doesn't follow the body contours too closely (front edge of badge-plate and cutout in wing).

The panel itself drops down slightly too early where it sits under the badge panel, so you get a bit of an overhanging lip from the front edge of the panel - does that make sense?

So overall not brilliant but I hope (let's see the paint) that it's not a complete pile of rubbish. Reflecting on what I was trying to solve, has it worked????

Non-integrated look of bumper/spoiler - yes, I think so.
Large panel gaps - yes, of sorts although the poor fit in places now gives me other gaps that aren't too pretty.

The S2 indicators look good, fitting the existing spotlights was a bit of a game, and despite what they told me I can not see anyway to fit the brake duct scoops - still I can sell them for what I paid. I've only really seen it on the car as a huge bare gelcoat panel so far, so with all the trimmings (lights, number plate) it should look better.

Am I pleased overall. So far yes, but I need to see it all together with all the bits fitted to make a real judgement. I can of course revert to standard if I'm really unhappy, it's just taken quite a lot of money and time to find out, but I guess someone had to..... (what a service I provide to you all....[8|] )

The weekend plan is to get it all together and await the VIC date. Hopefully pics will follow soon and you can make your own judgement (don't be too nasty if you don't like it [:(] [:(])

Not finished yet, but have a look......

Thanks Paul, I'm just trying to sort out the front spot lights at the moment (make them look a bit better and fill in the gaps).

Phil

New lights/mesh all fitted now. I've put in a pair of spotlights both sides, with the outer ones converted to run side-light bulbs.
