Front strut woes!

Hey folks just picked up front struts for my car 91 turbo non m030 suspension.

the sachs parts numbers are 312 309 and 312 310 they look exactly the same as the old ones, however they are about 20mm+ shorter than the old ones.

the original part number for one is 951 343 032 12 (11 1500 100 816 VS 10)

can anyone shed any light on this, checked sachs part numbers and they are correct by the website!?

Help!

edit I think 968s might use the same rront struts on the base suspension set up

By shorter what do you mean?

If the spring platform is in the same position to the bottom mountings it won't make any difference.

If the spring platform is lower, and you are using standard springs, you'll be fine as the front will take a 20mm drop quite happily - many fit -30mm springs.

yes the spring cup is lower and the whole unit is approx 40mm shorter, not happy with it.

Got the wrong ones from euro parts, any other places worth trying?

I got an old spare set from someone here and they were really good but a bit rusty, their part number is 944 343 031 19
not sure what car they are from, s2 maybe

Hmmm - seems to me there was standard, "sport shocks" and then M030 package - are these perhaps the "sport shocks"? Seems odd that the strut bodies (mount to spring perch) would be shorter as this effectively lowers the the car. I think your 40mm overall probably comes from -20mm on the strut body and then -20mm on the strut shaft itself (if the strut body is shorter, the overall travel would be reduced also so the strut shaft would be shorter by a similar amount).

It would be interesting to see complete specs on struts besides just spring rates.

I'm going to be looking for struts soon also and I really don't want a surprise like this....

just to clarify when the old and new shocks are put together the difference is all in the spring seat the shafts look about the same but will double check.

I wonder could there be a version with longer springs makng them the same overall size as my orig struts.

I am under the impression these are sports suspension, definitely not m030
