Front Suspension Bump Stops / Remove suspension guide?

Hi guys,

does anyone know or have a guide on how to remove the front suspension on a 2006 cayman S? I took my cayman into a Porsche centre last week and they have advised me to replace the bump stops on the front. For them to do the job, they've quoted £660.36. When I looked on the internet, the bump stops only cost £20-30. I've removed suspensions before of other cars but never done it on a Porsche before.

Could someone give me advise or have a guide they've made? Need a step by step guide incase I do something stupid LoL.

Cheers Chris. Yeah the Visual Health Check report given to me by the Porsche Centre says and quotes "front suspension bump stops deteriorated" and that would cost 660.36 [:(]
 
You could try a local non-franchised Porsche repair shop, ask you regional organiser for recommendations.
 
Be careful - are you sure they need replacing?? Porsche very good at noting things on health checks that show wear (expected wear at age / mileage) but when they conduct a health check they assess the vehicle to an exacting standard of a practically new vehicle. I would expect any used car to show a bit of wear in the suspension, however whether that is an issue or not is really open to interpretation.... Take it to an Indy before parting with your cash & ask their advice.
 
OPC told me that the upper mounts were noisy about 5 years ago, funny that they haven't mentioned them since and I've had an alignment done at CG with no problems in cluding their shock absorber check ran fine at about 69,000miles, shocks are original factory fitted items.
 
Interesting thread this. On a related note, I have also recently had an annual heath check carried out on my Cayman too and was advised that the tops of my front struts were 'excessively corroded' and have been quoted a significant sum to have them replaced. There is surface corrosion at the tops of the damper pistons where they enter the top mounts but what constitutes 'excessive'? They don't look like they will be structurally suspect anytime soon. Pete B.
 
Cheers for all the responses guys :) I'll have a look myself and do a self assessment on whether it needs doing or not.
 
I ordered some replacement front strut top mounts for my Cayman today via the web, worked out at £36 each and I will be fitting myself a t some point over the next couple of weeks.
