Front suspension rattle finally sorted...

Just in case this info helps anyone else...

My C2 developed a rattle and squeak from the front suspension. At the last service, the indi replace both lower wishbone/coffin arms (££!) and also the top mounts (as well as front discs and pads, so an expensive day). This fixed the squeaky noise, but there was still a clear rattle on the nearside when going over unmade roads, broken tarmac and draincovers etc - especially noticeable at low speed.

A revisit, identified a loose droplink, which was duly replaced, but I didn't notice any improvement.

Had to go back this week, after one of the front rads sprung a leak on holiday in Italy last week, so got them to look at the rattle again. Turned out that the "front forked control arm" was worn and hence replaced... thankfully, all suspension noises are now gone.

So, from this "sample of 1", it would suggest that squeak=coffin arm and rattle=forked control arm.

HTH.

If only that algorithm worked every time.

I had a regular squeeky rattle (cum clunk) for a long time that led to, in sequence, replacing drop links, top mounts, a bottom arm and was not resolved until the struts were changed. An expensive sequence.
