Front suspension struts for 1994 cars

There has been a little discussion going on on Rennlist about the front suspension struts on, specifically, a 1994 Turbo 3.6. It's beginning to look like the struts fitted to the '94 car are, in fact, 993 parts. The Rennlist poster maintains that he had to return the Bilsteins originally shipped to him (regular C2/C4/Turbo parts) as they wouldn't fit his '94 car. They were replaced with items which Bilstein list as 993 parts - and they fitted fine.

Does anyone have any more information about this - or can definitely confirm that this is, in fact the case??

I can find no mention in PET or in Adrian's book to mention anything of the sort and it would be a great revelation - to me at least - if it could be confirmed (or otherwise).

Regards

Dave

Dave,

the problem is only on a Turbo 3.6 where Porsche has used a M14 instead of a M12 to hold
the shock to the carrier in the lower mounting.
The top shock mounting is a normal M12. They have done this to beef up for a 18" wheel.
All replacement shocks apparently only allow for M12. Drilling them out to M14 is one option
as proposed by some tuners / perfomance companies.
I can tell from experiences where my Turbo 3.6 was fitted with OEM Boge shocks using 2 x M12,
instead of drilling out the lower hole to M14.

Rgds,

Geert,

Thanks for that. The Rennlist discussion seemed to culminate in a conclusion about bolt size - and you have cleared that up nicely. Thanks.
