I have got some new inserts for the front suspension struts.

I have removed the struts from the car and taken off the spring all ok. but I can't seem to shift the cap which holds the insert in. Soaked it in WD40 all night but still i cant get it off.

Is there a special tool needed to locate in the 4 cut-outs on the top of the cap?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Richard

You will have to double check, but some struts are actually sealed, and the cap wont come off. Mine are the sealed type and you have to chop them in order to use inserts.

If you actually have 1987 front struts you can't changed inserts to them. 1987 models used seald type front struts. Porsche changed design to model year 1987. The only possible way to change the inserts is to use so called hack saw Koni inserts, where you modfiy your seald type strut. If you have sturts where inserts can be changed most likely someone have changed them to older model
