front suspension

My car is to be booked in for a 12000m service imminently. It will require new front discs but I am not entirely certain that this will cure a slight tremor that is only experienced under heavy track conditions and may be associated with the worn discs, I cannot replicate the vibration in normal road driving.

It has been suggested that the problem may be front wheel bearing related or may be front wishbones, it seems.

My questions are;

. Can anyone suggest other likely causes?

. If one side is affected does this necessitate both sides being sorted?

. With the wishbones, do the bushes get swapped or is it the entire unit and, again, is it both side?

. Is it possible to test and identify with certainty where the problem may lie?

Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks in anticipation.

A few years ago i had something similar. It turned out to be a worn steering rack. Had it replaced and the problem was solved. Not saying that yours is the same thing but just a thought. [8|]

Regarding the wishbones, most would get both sides done. It'll only be the bushes that are worn out. If you want original RS bushes you have to replace the complete wishbone as the bushes are not available separately from Porsche. The alternative is to have polyurethane bushes fitted or the rubber replacements that are made by Ninemeister. The bushes aren't that expensive, however there's a fair old labour cost to have them changed.

Good information, thanks. I suppose the question is how do you establish exactly what the problem is without swapping everything just in case.

Also, am I right in assuming that the replacement bushes are harsher than the origional rubber ones? As I use mine on the road a fair bit I would go for the complete Porsche wishbones.

I wouldn't say the bushes make for a harsher ride. imho they sharpen up the feel of the front enabling a feeling of better response to inputs. I think Ninemiester can probably get them made to the correct spec if you want.
Rather than just swapping out, your tech should be able to inspect and test all the front suspension components, so that if something is genuinely worn it can be replaced. Far better than blanket change.

Exactly my experience when mine were polybushed. [:)]
