Front suspension?

Have noticed that when I reverse out of my drive (/or out of any parking space) turning hard left hand (or right hand) down the car seems to "hop" on the front wheels...
It feels almost as if the movement of the car is over-whelming the turning ability of the front wheels, and I experience a jolt of the front wheels, as though the vehicle is continuing to travel but on the side of the wheels/tyres.

Sorry, but it's a bit hard to describe..

So, I went to see Stuart at Sports and Classic (http://www.sportsandclassic.com/) who had a quick look and couldn't see anything obviously wrong (I'd already check the condition and pressure of my tyres), but said that it was a charaterstic of the 996 due to their large turning circle - if it got any worse, or if I continued to worry about it, then arrange to drop the car in with them.

As I've had the car nearly 2 years I'm surprised that I've only just noticed / experienced this - it was my wife who first came to mention it a short while back as she was using the car more than me.

Then, after we returned from the Lake District this weekend, I noticed that at low speeds (20 - 0) when I turned the steering wheel even very slightly I was getting a persistent groaning / creaking from the front of the car.

These two probs could be linked but would appreciate any thoughts before I book the car in with S&C.

Thanks.

I think they all do it to some extent - especially noticeable in reverse on full-ish lock. I think it's due to the width of the tyres and they scrub as the outside of the tyre is trying to move further than the inside.

Not sure about the creaking/groaning though - it doesn't sound right to me.

I think it happens due to turning circle and the width of the tyres. I had a Merc that did the same. I noticed its worse in the wet when I guess the tyres have less grip (thats my theory but could be BS!!). The groaning/creaking could be the front suspension bushes beginning to give. Eventually you get the same noise driving along at low speeds. Might be worth a geometry check if you havent had one recently.

+1 for me too, especially with full lock. Not really a big issue I think, it's actually worse during the cold weather...

Thanks for the replies guys.

Gives me some reassurance knowing "TADS".

I believe I am due for a geometry check so will get this arranged and ask S&C to investigate the groaning.

Regards, Neil.
