Front Undertray

Hi there,

Looks like I'm in need of a replacement undertray that bolts to the underside of the car. I've heard that Paul Anderson might do an Aluminium version. Does anyone know of a second hand plastic one available?

Thanks

Jody

Hi JODY :)

I dont think anyone does a plastic one as its to protect things like your aircon compressor from grounding....

I dont have one on mine and never have, I did think about it but the ally ones are around £400 and for an S2 like mine you also need an extra front section....and if you have never had one you will also need all the bolts and fittings....

All the best Brett :)

I'm sure you could get one from Porsche-a-part. The 944 has a similar undertray. Some reckon it is there for aerodynamic reasons (ground effect) but I can't see that. I personally think it is just there to prevent buffeting under the car and reduce the amount of spray and road crud being thrown up into the engine bay - or even help draw out warm air from the engine bay via a sort of venturi effect. I personally would re-install it even though it is probably not an essential bit of kit. Porsche saw fit to put it there in the first place and i'm sure a 2nd hand one will be cheap enough.

I can't imagine what possible benefit an aluminium one would give you over the original standard part, so i'd save your money. It might offer you better protection from light grounding as Brett suggests, but even then a thin sheet of aluminium is not going to offer much protection if you were to ground with enough force to cause significant damage.
