Front undertray

Chaps, I quite fancy a splitter for my '44, but I'm not a big fan of any off-the-shelf unit (plus they appear to be mega-bucks!), so I'm think about bastardising something else. However, I don't own any ramps so I can't get under my car to see what the OE one is like. Is it just a lip around the edge or is it a more substantial unit? Don't suppose anyone has any pics? Thanks, Ben.

It is a semi elliptical shape ie: it covers up the underneath in a straight line (sort of) from the front lower edge of the front arches.

It is designed to `flat floor` the car regarding aerodynamics.

There are also other panels in strategic locations which alongside the front undertray and the side skirts also are designed to improve airflow (reduce lift)

I believe some aftermarket splitters are just that, a splitter which replaces the OEM one (which I understand is not a good idea at v high speeds) but the better ones (cant remember the name but ESS comes to mind) offer the splitter with an undertray as a whole item. I believe John Simms has one.

Edited to say I am right so look here

Blimey! Didn't realise it was quite so a) 'designed' and b) important (at high speed). Thanks for the reply Paul - excellent answer! I'm just not too sure I like the way all splitters stick out beyond the bumper - I'd prefer something that just visually lowers the front end of the car, and looks well 'ard!

Try dp motorsport http://www.dp-motorsport.de/17.html?&L=1&product=19&detail=1&cHash=e9fb75fb38 , bit on the exspensive side but makes the 944 look real good, i got my rocker covers from them and my front spliter from GT racing in the states http://gt-racing.com/ , was cheap to buy but after paying the import charges worked out the same in pounds as it did in dolars...Take a look at my car on there home page, its the black 944 which flashes up every now and again... might give you some ideas if you want a different look.
