Front Wheel Noise

I'm getting a 'humming' noise from the front wheel after about 20mins of driving, it goes when light braking is applied or if steering slightly turned, only to return again after 5 mins or so. Noise is not always constant but usually occures at some point during a run....any thoughts ?

Hello Tim

Could be brake caliper pistons sticking in the calipers holding pads to discs,

Now is a good time to check front wheel bearings 22 years old now.

Regards
Charles

Def a front caliper binding

Mine does it too [:D]

The caliper is designed to retract slightly into the caliper when you lift off the brake pedal to give a running clearance between the pad and the disc and after 20 years, one of mine is not quite pulling back.

Needs a caliper strip down, clean of the pistion and the bore plus new seals as they have probably gone a bit harder with age.

All stripped down now, have also replaced flexible brake pipes as I had another car with binding shoes which I traced to a faulty pipe which, once replaced, cured the problem. Awaiting warmer weather before venturing out onto the garage to finish the job!
