Front Wiper Blades

Hi Guys

My OEM wiper blades need replacing. From the wealth of experience out there, should I stick with OEM, or is there an after market alternative that is a better bet?

Given the cost of the Porsche blades, it would be interesting to know if they are worth the extra money.

Thank you

Tony

Tony,

How much are Porsche asking for a blade set? You can pick up a Bosch set for £18.60 from CarParts4Less where the genuine Porsche Hella set are priced at £29.20.

I've not yet had to replace a set myself but I would expect the Bosch replacements to be fine.

Hi Tony

ive not replaced mine on the Cayman yet but I recently changed them on my nissan van. Having previously used cheap ones which only lasted about 6 months I've now replaced them with Bosch which I find to be excellent.

They were about £40 from halfords but a bit bigger than Cayman ones

When the time comes to change the Cayman wipers I will get Bosch without hesitation

hope this helps

cheers steve

I only changed those on my Gen1 once in almost 8 years ( 86,000 mL ) thanks to a tip given to me by a guy who did wiper testing at Jaguar, clean the blades with vinegar and it takes the greasy film off the rubber and they hardly ever need to be changed, I did it when I was about to buy a new pair and they stayed on for two more years, they were still on it when I sold the car weeks ago.

Hi Kevan

That is interesting. Mine are OK, other than being noisy when the rain is light or when first using. I will try the vinegar trick first, to see if this improves them.

Hi Tony,

You'll be amazed just how dirty wipers can get it may need a couple of wipes, use ordinary kitchen roll with the vinegar on it and clean them first then let them dry and repeat then once dry again it should do it then give it a squirt of the washer jets

Hi Kevan

Sounds like a plan. I will try it in the morning.

I am OK buying a new pair if I need them. Given the screen curves, I wanted to make sure that if I replaced them that I did not waste money on after market ones that did not do the job. My car is 2010, but only 14k on the clock, so they are unlikely to be worn. Sounds like they need a clean and this will hopefully sort them.

I use the PIAA Silicone blades, and find them much better than standard. They even wipe a dry screen without any juddering. More expensive, but worth every penny IMO. They do a 22" Sporza blade with spoiler, and a 22" curved for the passenger side.

Hi Kevan

2 cleans with vinegar transformed my wiper blades from juddering even when wet and now they are quiet and wiping perfectly.

Thanks for the tip, you have saved me some money!

Regards

Tony

Hi Tony,

Pleased to hear it worked for you, I had been wondering as simply cleaning can work wonders and this must be just about the cheapest method there is. I generally clean mine once a year.

Cheers,

Kevan
