Front wishbone!

Have any of you folks had your wishbones replaced recently? If so where did you go to have the work done and how much did it cost?

I see that Berlyn Services price is £185.38 including vat which would appear to be the best price i can find. However, I would require a full wheel alignment afterwards and therefore it would make sense to have the complete job done by someone well experienced and competent especially with 964's to do the work.

I know Alex had organised a day with Chris Franklin at Centergravity earlier this year, whom specialise in wheel alignment and geometry, unfortunately i missed this event. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Paul,

Powerflex do some bushes for the 964 which are fairly easy to fit yourself. I would recommend changing them yourself and then taking the car for 4 wheel alignment. The bushes are only about 100 pounds and a couple of hours to fit.

Having read the earlier 993 reference to the same subject, have you done all the bushes yourself in 2 hrs or is that a rumour?[8|]

May be worth giving Chris a ring and asking about a masterclass.

He mentioned this when he set my car up, basically you buy the bits and take over to him. He shows you how to and then sets the car up again.

I'll be doing this when I eventually get enough cash to upgrade the suspension.

Thanks for the replies guys ....
I've heard differing views on fitting bushes and of course there's varing (silly) prices on wishbones too. Berlyn Services appear to be the best price at present for complet wishbones. I'll give Chris a call today and see what he advises. Thanks again for your advice.

Probably the difference on prices relates to the fact that the price for the wishbone has just gone up significantly (nearly double I believe) in the Porche price review that happened a month or so ago and therefore some people may have stock at the old price at the moment.

Yep,[:)]

I bought a pair of second hand wishbones from ebay for 20 quid. Bushes were U/S, I shot blasted the wishbones and then removed the old bushes and replaced them . The old bushes were quite bad so maybe it made it easier?? dont know. Was not that bad in my opinion, although I am a mechanial engineer by trade with access to presses etc. Still much cheaper than new wishbones.
I will recon my old arms when i get round to it to give me a spare set[;)]. Took a couple of hours to change bushes but that does not include dismantle/fitting so maybe 4 hours in total and they looked as good as new.

Update folks. Phoned Chris today and had a good chat. He sounds a top guy and certainly knows what he's talking about. It was a real pleasure to speak with him and more so as he passionate about Porsche. Anyway i have given him details of what i want and he will get back to me with options and a quote.
Despite that i had resevations about replacing the wishbone bushes before, i may well go down that route now, having spoken to Chris. He is also keen to let me don on my overalls and muck in, for me that is great. Getting the job done and having a lesson in one, fantastic. Thanks again for your advice.
