Frontend knocking

Hi everyone

This has probably been asked before but worth asking again!

I've discovered that the front end produces a knocking noise when going over speed humps and bumps. Car has done 60k. I

What's the likely cause; front drop links? Likely cost?

Also, is it worth replacing with powerflex bushes rather than parts?

Suggestions and opinions appreciated.

Does it happen when turning as it could also be a coilover snaped?.

Is there any play in the drop links?

Is it one side or both?

could be a number of things. Last summer, I had a rattle on bad surfaces and had drop links and coffin arms replaced. That helped, but there was still a metallic rattle over little bumps noticeable at low speeds only. turned out to be the front forked arms.

I had similar noises - particularly over b***** speed bumps. Replaced drop links at the OPC and noise gone. Also did coffin arms.

Still detest speed bumps. Why do they have to be so high?

What gets me is if its a 30mph zone and they are there to slow cars, Then are suggesting that you should be able to drive over them at 30mph?
If so where do I send the bill?.

Nice theory, but in fact they are placed at frequent intervals so that, having gone over one at 5mph, you don't have time to reach 30mph before it's time to brake for the next one. ;)

Your just not trying hard enough[:D]

Speed humps are usually placed in traffic calming zones where they want you to drive at a slower speed i.e. not at 30mph !

Highway Code No 146
Adapt your driving to the appropriate type and condition of road you are on. In particular do not treat speed limits as a target. It is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit

Highway Code No 153
Traffic-calming measures. On some roads there are features such as road humps, chicanes and narrowings which are intended to slow you down. When you approach these features reduce your speed. Allow cyclists and motorcyclists room to pass through them. Maintain a reduced speed along the whole of the stretch of road within the calming measures.

Back on topic, your knocking noise could be the front sway bars.

Sorry for the delay in replying to everyone, have been away. Thanks for input and pet gripes!
Sound appears to come from Front near side but I'm not toechnical enough to know for sure.
Ill have to take to my local Indy to check it out. Lets hope it's not too expensive.

Final question for now; is it worth installing power flex bushes?
