Frontrunner

Is anyone from R11 thinking about going to Frontrunner?

Has anyone been to it before (I'm not sure if it's been run before?), and, if so, is it worth the petrol?

Thanks

Patrick

........ and as the tumbleweed blew down the street, past the old saloon, and on through the R11 forum. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hi Patrick,

Sorry hadn't passed through the R11 forum for a while as - well as you have noticed - its not exactly awash with activity. Answer is yes there are R11 types going (myself included) blizzards permitting [8|].

I went for the first time last year and enjoyed it. The first part is simply a tyre kicking gathering at Cornbury House but none the worse for that. The second involves a blast round the surrounding countryside in the form of a navigation rally which I think is now at full allocation of numbers.

I certainly enjoyed myself last year and no doubt will again this.

Thanks Jon, it's nice to know that there is life out there somewhere in R11! I was seriously contemplating contacting NASA to see if they could send out an exploratory probe!

Do you think it's worth going down to the Cornbury House part of the event if the navigation rally is full (bearing in mind the amazing fuel efficiency and general tree hugging nature of a 5.0 litre V8)?

Was there an auto-jumble last time, and was it better than the one at Ragley?

Cheers

Patrick

It really is an under used resource this forum [8|]

Was no auto jumble last time round so have no idea how good or otherwise its likely to be, from what I can tell its a pretty informal thing with folk just having stuff in the back of their cars to sell and no vans laden with goodies etc.

As to whether its worth going without the rally part - Hard to say really, depends if you like the notion of just having the craic with fellow enthusiasts while stood in a car park and munching on a bacon butty. Its a good way to meet people outside of the region and within the various front engined registers.

I certainly find that most of my enjoyment within the club comes from the 944 register rather than the region by the simple fact that you have a common interest with those in it and they are a great bunch - am sure the 928 crowd are the same (not sure how many 928's will be there mind you, were four or five last year). Guess what I am trying to say is that while a chilly car park in Oxfordshire may have limited appeal folk you may meet there could open up and expand your experience and enjoyment of the Club.

Thanks for your posts (obviously I mean Jon and Berny, the two Suffolk/Norfolk based members who were the only respondents on the Essex forum!).

When I woke up to see snow on Sunday morning I decided not to head off to Cornbury, but I hope that those that did had a good event. Maybe next year, weather and Gordon Brown allowing!

Cheers guys

Patrick

.........When I woke up to see snow on Sunday morning I decided not to head off to Cornbury...... Maybe next year.....

So had anyone else posted (me for example) they/I would have wasted their/my time anyway.

There are a myriad of other events between now and Front Runner next year; perhaps you could make it to some of them. IIRC there was a magnificent total of no 928s at Front Runner this year (Well none that I photographed on the rally at least).

BTW AFAIA it isn't obligatory to post on the forum.

Isn't hindsight a marvellous attribute! Just think, if I'd known that the rally was full, and that the weather was going to be poor, I wouldn't have wasted my time posting either! Hurrah, problem solved, please pass the crystal ball when you've finished with it!

No one said posting was compulsory, but it seems a shame (to me at least) that so many people viewed the post and only two decided to "waste their time" interacting with a fellow member by replying (and I, by the way, was grateful that they did)? Maybe I'm just a bit odd?

I thought clubs were supposed to be about interaction, making new friends and the exchange of information, but maybe I've got it all wrong? If so, please accept my sincerest apologies.

The post was purely about Frontrunner, and, this being the case, I'm sure I didn't mention whether I was or wasn't going to attend any other events between now and then (though, for the record, I will be).

Forgive me if I've lost the plot a little, but I'm a bit unsure as to why you chose to waste your time by posting after the event?

As an aside, does anybody else dislike acronyms?

If I haven't got anything useful to say, then I don't say anything.....

As an old saying goes:-

"It is better to be thought a fool and be silent, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"...[;)]
