Frozen Glass

In this exceptional weather the glass freezes in the door of my Boxster S. I can open the door but not shut it so had to drive home from the hospital last night with the door part open until the glass thawed!!
I tried antifreeze around the rubber seals in the doors last night, but didn't work. Does anything work as Porsche don't have a remedy?

Thanking you in advance

Hi All

I have exactly the same problem on my 987 S but never had it on my 986
Porsche must know its a design fault!

I had to drive home for 25 miles with my door open on monday night!!

Think I'll give the Lube a go :)

Porsche must know its a design fault!

If I remember right its mentioned as part of the maintenance regime in the user manual .. Although not specifically related to freezing the window in place

Didn't someone tell me (I have a feeling it was a guy at the dealer) that the easiest and fastest way is to gently slide the key in between the glass and the rubber seal at the door top (wing-mirror height) and then slowly run it along to the other end. This gently flexes the rubber off the glass and free's everything up. He called it a "design feature" and winked.

A word of warning, don't be lazy and impatient like me and just try to wind the window down once you're in the car. I tried to free my frozen window this morning by doing that. I heard a loud crack and then I could hear the window winder motor freely spinning on its own. D'oh! The window winder mechanism is no longer connected to the window. The window now (that it's defrosted) slides up and down on its own. Off to the garage I go.

Hi all, I have a similar problem when it;s icy in that when I open the door the window is stuck and the motor keeps trying to wind the window down and up a few millimetres until it releases. Does yours do this? A couple of days ago the motor kept doing it and I pushed the down button in the car and the window wound down fully but then wouldn't wind up at all and I drove all the way to work with the window open at -3 degrees!

There must be a way to defrost it! I tried luke warm water but with limited success.
