Now now Chris, no panic. We can't do much about your question about "any history" so lets trow in some generics. Forged alloy wheel, very strong, very light. Became an iconic design. Was always anodised from the factory; very few companys can reproduce a factory finish but notably Nick Moss or Biagio can reproduce an accurate finish. Most outlets polish the alloys instead, which then leaves you to maintain it a bit more often. Couple of designs on this phototread on pelican http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=213768&highlight=fuchs+code

First introduced with the 1967 model year 911 S
Offered with the performance models (typically S or Carrera) and optionally available on "lesser" models. All wheels have a fox logo (fox = Fuchs in German) and a date stamp in the format month/year i.e. say 11/73 Also, they need to have the original type number stamped into the wheel: this chart will clarify.

Any further questions, ask away.

All the best,

Bert
