Hi Nick,
My car had 17" Cup 3 wheels on it when I bought it (The same as doug's - made by Mille Miliga) I took them off in favour of 16" fuchs because I wanted an more original look (like the poster I had on the wall when I was a boy!)
I didn't dislike the Cups at all, I think that it makes the 80's 911 look more modern, but it just wasn't the look I wanted.[

On changing the wheels I did notice several things: firstly as others have said the replica Cup wheels are much heavier than genuine 16" fuchs or 15" ATS cookie cutters, I dont know if genuine Cups are lighter I would imagine so, but you will need spacers to fit which will have some weight to them (as they are quite large & expensive on the front!)
I was also advised that using the 17"s can wear out older wheel bearings more quickly (which it did!) because the load on the bearing is shifted due to the extra weight & the wheels basicly sit further out from the discs than fuchs or cookie cutters.
The cups I had were 7.5 x17" on the front & 9 x 17" on the rear, then changed to fuchs 6x16" on the front (now changed to 7x16") & 9x16" on the rear. The ride was noticably improved with the 16" wheels along with the steering being much lighter, and also the tendancy for the car to 'tramline' disappeared - I don't if others have found similar results?
Th standard wheels for early 993's & some 968's were 16" Cup style wheels in 7" & 8" widths with 17"s being optional extras (see piccy attached) Also the 5 double spoke boxster alloys are 16" too, both of which I have seen on a number of 80's 911's both of which look good too. I would imagine you need spacers to use these wheels as with the genuine 17" cups but you would have to check.
I hope this helps.
