Fuchs wheels on a 991.1 ?

Hi. Loving my 991.1 12 days into ownership. Two additions are planned: a suitable personalised registration number and potentially some new/additional wheels.

I LOVE the look of the 'classic' Fuchs wheel with the black painted centres and have found some in 19" size by Fuchs. Thoughts and opinions sought...

I'd say go for it, a classic look and one that fancy on my Cayman.

Beware though, as there are lots of so called "Fuchs" wheels about, only one of them genuine. That first picture you show is of the modern re-interpretation of the classic forged wheel by Fuchs, and is indeed by Fuchs themselves. As I understand it, it too is a proper forged wheel, hence the considerable price. All the other (including the ones fitted by Porsche to the Sport Classic that you show) are merely cast copies. Nothing essentially wrong with cast wheels, but it pays to know what you are buying.

Good luck, and look forward to seeing a picture of the finished article

Thanks, John. The first image is from the website of design911.co.uk. They do appear as you say to be genuine Fuchs wheels, hence the not inconsiderable price of ÂŁ3,078 including VAT. Ouch! And I calculate that tyres fitted (Pirelli PZero) would add a further ÂŁ750. I am really tempted, but wanted to gauge the reaction of Porsche experts on here. And perhaps I could recover some of the cost by selling the current Carrera S 20" wheels... Thanks again.

Cheers

Simon

I think they look fantastic, but one word of warning if the car is under Porsche warranty, check with your opc that they would not view this as a modification and void the warranty. Some are sticklers and some are not.

Cheers, Peter. My OPC has been fair and said that a warranty claim may be affected if any problem is directly related to the non-Porsche wheels. Sounds fair enough to me. Just looking for someone to give me a quote for fitting new wheels and tyres...

Will be fine if you have a claim under the 2 year manufacturer's warranty, but won't stand up under extended warranty.
Regards,
Clive.

Thanks, Clive. I can live with that. I wouldn't expect Porsche to honour a warranty claim that is due to a non-Porsche component.

Wow! That's an impressive car history you have there! [:)]

Thanks - yes I've been about a bit. [:D]
Just to elaborate, once you get into extended warranty territory you are in effect, dealing with an insurance policy and not with Porsche or your PC.
Reading the strict wording of the policy, fitting non-Porsche approved parts invalidates to whole of the policy, not just the non-approved components. Theoretically therefore, your claim for a defective PDK transmission could be repudiated because you have fitted incorrect wheels. It's something to think about before you contemplate selling those stock items! [:(]
Regards,

Clive

Hmmmm - thank you, Clive. That is very helpful and certainly food for thought... I won't be too hasty!

Maybe I'll treat my 911 to a personalised number plate and one or two other bits instead...

I have my eye on a registration number... And have considered maybe changing the engine cover...

Thanks again.

Simon

Cheers, Geoff.

That thought did occur to me, as did the idea of maybe keeping the current wheels for winter use with suitable tyres... Just would need to figure out where to store them...

I fitted s genuine set to a previous 997 turbo. One of my most favourite wheel options.

Edit....mine are the Sport Classic Porsche wheel rather than the Fuchs option.

If you fit genuine replacements, they will be Porsche Approved and should therefore comply with the terms of the extended warranty.

Thanks, Clive. Although the original Fuchs were fitted on new Porsches so therefore approved, I understand that the new and genuine Fuchs wheels are no longer Porsche approved. Also, the front wheels may require spacers... I'm getting a local Wiltshire independent Porsche specialist to investigate 'the project' for me...

There is a 991 50th anniversary edition that parks near me often and it looks great with the Fuchs-style wheels. I assume they are the Porsche ones fitted to that model as standard though. Still look fantastic and perfect for that edition of the car.

Thanks. Am struggling to get anyone to fit them. Not getting replies to my emails to Steve Bull.

If you could get any photos of the car that you mention, that would be great!
